SCUSD High School Enrollment 2016-2017 presented @ CAL M.S.

Neighborhood Schools Students who live within the boundaries of a particular high school have automatic enrollment rights to the school’s GENERAL PROGRAM. Parents do not have to go through any particular process to enroll in their general neighborhood high school program. To determine your neighborhood school, use the school locator on the SCUSD website: http://www.scusd.edu/attendance-areas

Open Enrollment SCUSD has a process called Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment is an application/lottery system to allow students the ability to go to a high school program outside of their neighborhood school/attendance area. Grades 7 – 12: Tuesday, January 10 at 8 a.m. – Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 5 p.m. Open Enrollment can be done online or in person. http://www.scusd.edu/open-enrollment or at the Enrollment Center.

Open Enrollment Lottery Open Enrollment is not a first-come, first-serve process. Open Enrollment uses a computerized lottery system to place students at their school program of choice. A lottery must be implemented if applications exceed the grade/space capacity at the requested school.

Specialty Programs SCUSD High Schools have a variety of specialty programs. Sacramento City Unified offers specialty programs that are available to students district-wide through Open Enrollment and an application process, the “Common Application.”

Specialty Programs C.K. McClatchy: Humanities and International Studies Program (HISP) Criminal Justice Academy (CJA) Law and Public Policy Academy (LPPA) Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

Specialty Programs John F. Kennedy: Criminal Justice Manufacturing & Design (MaD) Program in America and California Exploration (PACE)

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Rosemont RHS Culinary Specialty Programs Luther Burbank International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Rosemont RHS Culinary Engineering Construction & Design LEAD

Specialty Programs Hiram Johnson ALPHA -Advanced Learning Program for High Achievers Corporate Business Academy Health & Medical Services Law Academy West Campus Kit Carson International Baccalaureate (9th-10th)

The “Common Application” To streamline the application process for SCUSD “specialty programs,” the district has designed a “Common Application.” The Common Application will go live on December 1st, 2016 on the SCUSD website. It will close on January 24th, 2017. Students will use their new Google accounts for the application. Login ID: firstname-lastname@student.scusd.edu Password: Date of birth in the mm/dd/yyyy format (including slashes)

The “Common Application” The Common Application will be the same singular criteria application needed for ALL of the specialty programs. Transcripts/CAASPP scores will be automatically sent to all specialty program leads/Principals. Students no longer need to request transcripts for the various programs. Teacher Recommendation Forms are still required (2) to support the application, but will now be initiated by the application, and will prompt teachers to complete via district email. Students will need to know teacher email addresses. (firstname-lastname@scusd.edu)

Open Enrollment and Common App. All specialty programs require students to apply to the district’s Open Enrollment (1/10 – 1/24) process, AND Complete a Common Application, (12/1 – 1/24) * (with the exception of some ROTC programs, which have particular applications. Visit individual high school websites for specifics.)
