Hours of Operation 0730-1630 Monday through Friday Closed Weekends and American Holidays Limited Services on Japanese Holidays The only Vehicle Registration Office on island. Register all SOFA and Non-SOFA vehicles that require base access. Provide step by step guides and explain expected fees.

Road Tax Paid annually between 1 April and 31 May, must be paid NLT 1 June. JSVRO will set up collection sites at each camp. Payment is in Yen only. Waivers Waivers are used as exception to standard policy. All waivers can be found online at: http://www.mcbbutler.marines.mil/BaseInformation/VehicleRegistration.aspx

30 Day Additional Vehicle Waiver SOFA members are allowed one 4-wheeled per SOFA licensed member in household. One 2 wheeled vehicle per properly licensed member. (Motorcycle endorsement) Waiver allows you to purchase an additional vehicle for 30 days. You are allowed TWO 30 day waivers per year. Example: You have a vehicle that no longer meets your family needs and you need to purchase an additional vehicle before you sell your current vehicle.

120 Day Ownership Waiver You must own your vehicle for 120 days before sale. This Wavier allows you to sell the vehicle you currently own prior to 120 days ownership. You are allowed ONE 120 day waiver per year. The following requirements must be met: No Lien - vehicle must be paid in full. SOFA license, GOJ Inspection, JCI and PDI must be current. Sponsor must have BN/SQ CO or equivalent endorsement. Only the Sponsor can request the wavier.

Spouse Only Driving Permit Allows the sponsor to register a vehicle using his/her spouse’s drivers permit. Required for personnel when the spouse is the only person with a SOFA drivers permit. The following requirements must be met: Spouse must have a valid SOFA drivers license. Sponsor must have BN/SQ CO or equivalent endorsement.

Out processing/Checking Out All vehicles must be transferred from the registered owner’s name or deregistered. Can be deregistered via: Title transfer Junking Shipping Special power of attorney (SPOA) **NOTE: Command and JSVRO endorsements must be obtained prior to checking out with SPOA.**

Common Questions Whose signature is required for JSVRO waiver letters? All waivers require BN/SQ CO (O-5/Civilian equivalent GS13/NAF-5) endorsement. Can my family member register a car in their name? No, ALL vehicles are registered to the SOFA-sponsor’s name. How many vehicles can I own? One passenger vehicle and one motorcycle per properly licensed driver.
