St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Put On The Gospel Armor: The Orders of the Day for Christian Soldiers St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, June 4th

Welcome to St. Peter! “Put on the Gospel Armor” will be the theme for a series of 8 sermons this summer based on Ephesians 6:10-20 beginning this weekend. We encourage you to make a special effort to hear them all. As Christian soldiers for our Savior may we “fight the good fight” of the saving faith!

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Prayer before Worship Lord Jesus, in the waters of my baptism you called me both to faith and to be a part of your army of believers. The spiritual battle against sin and unbelief is intense and difficult. I confess that I have lost many struggles, and at times don’t even seem to try hard to overcome temptation. Forgive me, and wash away my sins in your holy blood. Through this series of sermons and worship services this summer, help me put on your full armor so that I might win the victory that you have already obtained for me and for all people through your cross and empty tomb. Amen.

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Put On The Gospel Armor: The Orders of the Day for Christian Soldiers St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, June 4th

Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus CW #376 Text: George Duffield, Jr., 1818-88 Setting: WEBB Tune: George J. Webb, 1803-87

Verse 1: Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross! Lift high his royal banner; it must not suffer loss. From vict’ry unto vict’ry his army shall he lead Till ev’ry foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed.

Verse 2: Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey; Forth to the mighty conflict in this his glorious day! Ye that are brave, now serve him against unnumbered foes; Let courage rise with danger and strength to strength oppose.

Verse 3: Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in his strength alone. The arm of flesh will fail you; ye dare not trust your own. Put on the gospel armor; each piece put on with prayer; Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.

Verse 4 (Please Rise): Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The strife will not be long; This day the noise of battle, the next, the victor’s song. To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be; He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

Opening Verses Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. All: And also with you.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Lord, Have Mercy Kyrie Pastor: For all that we need in life and for the wisdom to use all your gifts with gratitude and joy, hear our prayer, O Lord. All (Sung): Lord, have mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy Kyrie Pastor: For the steadfast assurance that nothing can separate us from your love and for the courage to stand firm against the assaults of Satan and every evil, hear our prayer, O Christ. All: Christ, have mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy Kyrie Pastor: For the well-being of your holy Church in all the world and for those who offer here their worship and praise, hear our prayer, O Lord. All: Lord, have mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy Kyrie Pastor: Merciful God, maker and preserver of life, uphold us by your power and keep us in your tender care: All: Amen.

Pastor: The works of the Lord are great and glorious; his name is worthy of praise.

O Lord, Our Lord All (Sung): O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is your name in all the earth. Almighty God, merciful Father, you crown our life with your love.

O Lord, Our Lord All: You take away our sin; you comfort our spirit; you make us pure and holy in your sight. You did not spare your only Son, but gave him up for us all.

O Lord, Our Lord All: O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is your name in all the earth. O Son of God, eternal Word of the Father, you came to live with us; you made your Father known; you washed us from our sins in your own blood.

O Lord, Our Lord All: You are the King of glory; you are the Lord! O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is your name in all the earth.

(The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All (Sung): Amen.

Verse 1: forward into battle see his banners go! Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Verse 2: Like a mighty army moves the Church of God; brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod. We are not divided, all one body we,

Verse 2: one in hope and doctrine, one in charity. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Verse 4: this through countless ages saints and angels sing. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Christian Soldiers, here are your battle orders: Be Strong in the Lord and in his mighty power!

Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Prayer of the Church Pastor: Gracious God and Father, we praise you for the countless blessings, which we receive from your hand; the beauties of creation and bounties of the earth, the joy of life and the pleasure of friendship, the good of work and the gift of rest, the privilege to share happiness and sorrow with one another. Above all we praise and thank you for your saving Word and for the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Prayer of the Church All: Strengthen us through this heavenly food; increase our trust in Christ and our love for one another.

Give us strength to face the evils of each day with fresh confidence. Open our lips to speak of your grace, and move us to use your full armor to fight our spiritual battles. Protect and prosper the family, the school, the government, and all good institutions that you have established for the benefit of society.
