Presentation transcript:

Winning at any cost and losing it all Sacrifice of Jephthah’s daughter: Judges 11: 29-40 Desperation is a dangerous state of mind: (vs.29-31) Aggressive military strategy motivated a senseless vow. The spirit of the Lord being upon Jephthah did not mean that God was in control of Jephthah It is never wise to “bargain” with God for personal gain.

Winning at any cost and losing it all Sacrifice of Jephthah’s daughter: Judges 11: 29-40 Driven to victory at any cost is costly: (vs.32-33) Jephthah advanced cause with great success. (20 cities) Jephthah brought peace to the children of Israel and horror to his own house.

Winning at any cost and losing it all I. Sacrifice of Jephthah’s daughter: Judges 11: 29-40 Dangerous to place ambition over principle: (vs.34-40) The reality of a foolish vow, his only child, only daughter. The unnecessary guilt upon the daughter, she did not bring him grief, his vow did. The Daughter’s respect and honor for her father and the Lord. The Daughter’s assignment to the Temple; lifelong virgin. The Daughter pays the vow of the father. WHY NOT OFFER A DIFFERENT KIND OF OFFERING, why burnt.

Life Application (1) Choose your battles wisely. (2) Make your promises carefully. (3) No ambition is worth your family or future generations. (4) Victory at the loss of integrity is failure.
