Ice Etiquette Presented BY DIAMOND CITY FIGURE SKATING CLUB JANUARY 2017 All information gathered from USFSA and PSA websites

General rules Skaters should be aware of those with right of way and yield Become familiar with the ice usage chart Parents are not permitted to speak directly to another skater regarding ice etiquette issues. Speak to a coach (preferred) or the rink representative (if a coach is not available). Coaches and/ or rink representative will resolve disputes and report ongoing issues to the board. Skaters should leave the ice or stand against the boards near the benches if talking to one another

Ice etiquette – Priorities and Rules The Right of Way - The customary or legal right of a person, vessel, or vehicle to pass in front of another. Programs have the 1st priority to the right of way. The program skater should be easily identifiable. Consider using a fluorescent colored vest/sash or material that can be tied around the waist Do not restart programs. A protocol should be developed regarding double run through’s prior to competitions. Coaches should NOT make a habit of following a skater during their program Lessons have the 2nd priority to the right of way. This means the skater having the lesson, not the coach! This includes skaters on the harness. Seniority has the 3rd right of way and the responsibility to avoid collisions. Model heads up awareness, be courteous, lead by example. Be Courteous – "Excuse me, Thanks“ When passing slower skaters, always pass to the outside of the skater When skating towards another skater, when in doubt skate to the right. Look both ways before skating away from the barrier

Additional rules and etiquette Sign in at the box office and pay for each session before stepping on to the ice (REV and ARENA required sign in and pay prior to steeping on the ice, Coal. St. sign the red book and pay when the session is complete) No breakable containers are allowed rink side. Drinks are allowed on or below the railing. Food is not permitted near the rail or on the ice. Please pick up all belongings (including dirty tissues, water cups, bottles, etc.) at the end of the session. Parents, skaters not in the session or other spectators should not loiter at the rail or benches. This is unsafe and it interferes with a constructive training session. Coaching by parents from the bleachers, benches or railing is not allowed at any time. Parents will be asked to leave the arena if this happens. The benches by the ice are to be used by the skaters and coaches only. If skaters must talk to someone off the ice, even if for a brief time, they need to get off the ice to do so or the skater will be asked to leave the ice.

Edge Jumps and spins (including lutz) Harness Run

Warm up pattern

Toe and flip jumps (including axel)

Remember Freestyle is practice ice for figure skating practice It is NOT public ice It is NOT club ice Proper ice etiquette will keep everyone safe from collisions and injuries
