Why we do! what we do

What We Do... Pit crews : Pit crews are spaced throughout the course each day set by the 3Day Event Staff. Each Med pit will be staffed between 6-7 people each site. Site set up. Designate team leader, roles and responsibilities for each person, and organize your pit accordingly. Supplies are stocked every morning for the day ahead Pit leaders, please keep track of supplies. (If the pit needs more supplies, we will get those from the supply truck). Once completed with your Pit, break down site, head to the next med pit stop to help, or directed from med captain/director. (Please ask for help with the people around you, work as a team.)

What We Do. Base Camp Crew (available 24hours a day for emergent issues) Sets up camp…and gets ready for the walkers at camp! Daily after walkers arrive in the afternoon, the camp is open for PT and Medical until 9pm… Records are kept of all medical activity at the 3Day At night we have overnight call coverage 1-2 RNS that stay in the medical tent all night to deal with night time emergencies.. Ambulances here on site and route On closing Day this crew helps to set up at closing /the finish line.

Teamwork Is Important Show as unified front, be an example to ALL crew, walkers, staff, supporters, etc.! Mean what you say and say what you mean; with respect, dignity, compassion, and love. Keep promises! Walkers first! They will get to the finish if we have to tape or carry them! ANY issues, please speak with medical captain immediately.

Whats this Theme stuff?? We decorate US, the vans, the camp sites and Pits…..Each year we change our theme So coconut bras…, leis…etc are appropriate… Make sure things are not offensive! And get used to bras on the outside of your clothing?! Men on med crew wear red dresses on red dress Saturday…”Cancer is a drag” theme of day…walkers love it!!

Things to be ready for **Blisters and lots of them – See Blister PowerPoint **Dehydration, Hyponatremia, Fatigue, Capillaritis, Knee and Ankle problems, Sprains, Hypothermia, Hyperthermia, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea…(these are some of the medical issues we see) Being Overfed on the buffet, tearful, cranky. Meeting new friends….2,500+ of them. Any questions, please speak with the Medical Captain.

Do I have to stay in tent? The answer is no you do not have to stay in a tent. Other options may include a nearby hotel, AirB&B, or local residents in San Diego. The important part is to be on time back at camp as directed per captain and/or pit leader. I if you do decide to camp, please bring your sleeping bag, it does get chilly at night being off the waterfront. Tents will be provided. Any questions, please talk with the captain!!!

What do I do to get ready???? Sleep, eat, pack and rest!!!!

Words of advice: Be ready for the most exciting 3 days of your life. You are going to make the difference. Take time to talk, be part of their journey. Pack lightly you need very little Bring a camera, headlamp, flash light, warm jacket, clean socks and underwear Let your light shine…..

CEU’S You must sign up ahead of time . At Online check in. Go online and do pretest, and view PowerPoint. Then print and bring tests done to the event… Give to Medical Captain. Then after event you get a Certificate!
