www.kheaa.org KEES Money (Check your account NOW) To be eligible for a KEES yearly GPA award, a high school student must: Be a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident. Be a Kentucky resident. You are eligible if your legal residence remains Kentucky while you attend the U.S. Congressional Page School or participate in an approved foreign educational exchange program. You are eligible if your parent or guardian maintains legal residence in Kentucky while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Earn at least a 2.5 GPA in any year of high school while meeting the KEES curriculum requirements. Attend and graduate from a certified Kentucky high school or other approved high school. Not be a convicted felon. Turn to PAGE in your agenda.

High School GPA Calculation 4.0 point scale A = 4.0 F = 0.0 The student’s grade point average for the academic year is calculated using each grade awarded for all courses taken during the academic year. The KEES grading scale .Under KERA, local school councils were given authority to establish their own grading scales. .No state agency has authority to set grading scales. .Because of the differences among high school grading scales throughout the state. the decision was made to have a broad, general grading scale for KEES awards. .This was a deliberate decision, in part, to provide as much scholarship award money as possible to students more likely to attend technical and community colleges. .Students who take more advanced courses in high school will be more likely to retain KEES awards through four years of college; students less well prepared will be less likely to retain KEES awards beyond the first year of college, thereby reducing the total amount they are likely to receive. The KEES grading scale is a 4 point grading scale with an A valued at 4 points and an F valued at zero points. The numeric details of what constitutes an A, a B, and so on, are the responsibility of the local school authorities.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements will be awarded KEES Calculating Awards Students who meet the eligibility requirements will be awarded KEES Amount based upon each qualifying year’s GPA of 2.50 or higher Ranges from $125 to $500 per year

Calculating Awards Example – Mickey Mouse 9th grade GPA - 4.00 $500 Highest ACT score -26 $428 TOTAL $2,190

Award Notices KHEAA sends an award notice after annual data is loaded. High school graduates Underclass students (prior year’s 9th, 10th, 11th graders) Parents of incoming freshmen receive a letter and KEES brochure describing the KEES program.

Don’t forget to update addresses! Important Reminder PLEASE . . . Don’t forget to update addresses! Each year, approximately 20% of KEES award notices are returned to KHEAA due to incorrect addresses. Providing a current address is a great way to help KHEAA save costs . . . and ensure your students receive the most recent updates on KEES and financial aid programs that may benefit them.

Zip Access at www.kheaa.com Students can access their KEES account anytime. Get your students involved with checking their account information prior to graduation. Verify the correct Social Security number Verify date of birth Verify yearly grades and award amounts Verify the highest ACT or SAT score on file

Using a KEES Award Students may use their KEES awards at any participating college or university in Kentucky. Includes: 4-year public and private institutions All of the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) Does not include: Beauty and barbering schools Institutions offering only sectarian courses.

College Visits: Seniors are given 2 college visits during the school day It is recommended they take advantage of off days such as Fall Break to allow for more opportunities When you go on a college visit, get a letter from the college and turn it into the ATTENDANCE OFFICE for an excused day College Visits DO NOT have to be prearranged with BCHS.
