The Beckfoot Trust Academy Ambassadors Board Development Day 19 September 2016 David Horn CEO Beckfoot Trust

A Bit about Beckfoot School Beckfoot is an 11-18 Co-ed school with 1650 students. Located in Bradford, West Yorks We believe in the following: Every young person has talent Positive and visible leadership A collectively owned vision – the ‘absurdly aspirational’. Smash glass ceilings Students should be leaders and own their learning An unrelenting focus on teaching and learning A curriculum personalised and matched to need Balance up accountability with liberation – we nurture talented educationalists. We abandon the unnecessary and cherish staff and students

A Bit about Beckfoot Trust The Beckfoot Trust was formed in 2013 and now looks after seven schools with approximately 6400 students cross phase. We never approach schools to join our Trust Our Trust is: Ambitious with a hard edge Collaborative and inclusive (best idea wins!) Based on high challenge and high support (Outcomes count)

Our Core Purpose Beckfoot Trust schools create remarkable learning environments in which students expect success because of their ambitious attitude to learning, the challenge provided by staff and the support they receive at home. Top 20% by comparison with similar schools within three years of joining the Trust

Growing our Trust For a school to join the Trust: The RSC must consider the proposal to be beneficial It must be a Bradford school Be comprehensive in status and ethos Be co-educational Be located within a 20 minute off peak drive-time of Beckfoot School Actively want to join the Beckfoot Trust Adopt the Trust Values, Core Purpose, Learner and Organisational principles Balance the educational and commercial risks of the Trust

September 2016 Seven schools and 6,400 students Cross-phase The Beckfoot Trust Secondary Schools Special Schools Primary Schools Outstanding Beckfoot Hazelbeck Allerton Good Not yet Good Beckfoot Upper Heaton, Oakbank, Thornton Heaton Total 4 1 2

Due Diligence – What do you want? Matching values: Type of Relationship:

The Process School approaches the Trust Trust speaks to RSC about the opportunity Trust carries out Due Diligence Stage 1 (private). Governors pass a Resolution to become an Academy and to join the Beckfoot Trust. School ‘Registers its Interest’ with DfE. Trust complete the Due Diligence process Stage 2. Complete an Application to convert (when the Trust’s due diligence is complete). Obtain an Academy Order after the DfE due diligence is complete. Start the TUPE and Commercial Transfer work.
