Vision To produce cadets that are: And have an understanding of: Who: Accountable for their actions Responsible Respectful And have an understanding of: Leadership styles, applications, and techniques The obligation to serve their communities or country in whichever capacity they see fit The higher standards of conduct and courtesy to which they are held The career and education opportunities open to them after graduation The importance of physical fitness The US military Who: Know that they are expected to do their best whenever possible Build and believe in a unit Esprit de Corps Learn in a structured environment that is a balance of discipline, camaraderie, and fun Set standards and goals for themselves So that they may move forward into leadership positions in the fields they choose.

Accountable Understand: Enforced by: there are consequences for their actions, good and bad Grades across all subjects is not the subject of measure, but it is significant Leaders are held accountable for their actions, and those of their subordinates Enforced by: Increasing levels of consequences as they progress through NS ranks Minimum grades (core courses) required to participate in NJROTC activities Consequences for serious or excessive violations of school rules on top of those administered by VP

Responsible Understand: Enforced by: That they must know where they are supposed to be and what they are required to do Avoiding “I forgot,” or “I didn’t know what day it was…” Enforced by: POD, remind 101, etc. Consequences for failing to meet obligations that they should have known about

Respectful Understand: Enforced by: That dealing with cadet officers and chiefs, instructors, and other teachers and administrators demands a level of courtesy Use appropriate language for professional situations Enforced by: Emphasis on “Yes, Sir,” or “Yes, Senior,” that is constant and consistent through the year No profanity in spaces

Topics to Understand Leadership styles, applications, and techniques Every year we teach the leadership curriculum provided by Navy, augmented by our personal experiences The obligation to serve their communities or country in whichever capacity they see fit Community service opportunities School service opportunities The higher standards of conduct and courtesy to which they are held “Cadets 24/7” mentality The career and education opportunities open to them after graduation Military opportunities Civil service opportunities Scholarships available Different routes to success (military, unions, apprenticeships, OJT) Done with field trips and guest speakers The importance of physical fitness Structured (strength, cardio-vascular, flexibility) Non-structured (games) More structured early on, more games later in the year The US military Rank structure Missions Use of technology Important history

Environment NJROTC spaces are: Safe Free from bullying and gossip Kept in presentable condition or privileges are lost NJROTC unit: Is only for those that WANT to be here and are willing to try and make themselves and the unit better Is a place of standards and discipline that will remove those not willing to meet the standard Push as much as possible to cadet leadership Classroom is dynamic: Use of technology and activities to cement learning whenever possible Disciplined enjoyment of each other and the free exchange of ideas to facilitate learning

Goals Zero cadets dropping out of high school Increase community service to one event per month Decrease percentage of major conduct infractions to at least commensurate with percentage of school population 20% of unit attempt the Cadet Fitness Test Increase GPA to 87 Instill a sense of pride in academics Continue to grow tutoring program Provide quiet place to study
