Presentation transcript:

Make sure you have signed up for your October conference. If you are able to volunteer in the classroom, please make sure you have signed up for a day/time that works for you. If needed, volunteers won’t start until October. Please turn in any forms that have not been turned in, as soon as you can.

Students will also earn “Brag Tags” for positive classroom behaviors. This year we will be using Class Dojo as our classroom behavior system. Students will earn points for positive behavior and points will be taken away for negative behavior. Those points will then be turned in for prizes. We will also have a Character Traits clip chart, where students will be able to clip on for exhibiting great character and earn a Paw Print. Students will not clip on every day, just when they exhibit excellence in that character trait. Students will also earn “Brag Tags” for positive classroom behaviors. Students are given 3 warnings about tipping in their chairs before they lose their chair for the day (due to safety reasons).

Food - Peanut-free class. Make sure it has also not been processed in a facility with peanuts. Need to have ingredients label to be sure. - Parties are now food free district wide. Students may have a water bottle at their desk to cut down on drink breaks. Bathroom - Take class bathroom breaks 5 to 7 times a day. - Students can also take pass during their independent work time, not while I’m teaching.

2nd Grade does the same homework. Homework follows a schedule: Monday – Spelling practice using monthly spelling menu Tuesday – Math practice using math game cards OR a math worksheet Wednesday – Language Arts practice using reading comprehension worksheet Thursday – Writing practice using monthly writing calendar Nightly reading

Students will use their spelling list and complete activities from the Monthly Spelling Menu each week. Please keep child’s spelling list in their binder so they can use it at school as well.

Students will take a pre-test on the first day of the school week to find out which list they will get, based on the words they get correct. Then on the final day of the week students will be tested on those words. Students practice spelling during Daily 5 time.

We use the Envision Math series by Pearson during our math block We use the Envision Math series by Pearson during our math block. Students will have a mini lesson and then will break out into guided math groups and center rotations. PearsonRealize has a great website where you can access the lessons and practice at home as well. Sometimes worksheets may be sent home for homework as additional practice. In your child’s RAINFOREST binder is a baggie that is housing all the math game cards that will be used for weekly math homework. To play the games, your child will need a deck of playing cards.

Each week a reading comprehension sheet will go home Each week a reading comprehension sheet will go home. Students will read the passage on the sheet and then answer the questions on the side. Students need to answer in complete sentences and underline their proof in the passage.

Students will be taught Narrative, Expository, and Opinion writing Students will be taught Narrative, Expository, and Opinion writing. We will also practice manuscript printing and learn cursive after winter break. Students choose one of the writing activities from the monthly writing calendar to complete each week for homework.

We use the Treasures reading series by Macmillian/McGraw Hill for daily practice of reading standards and strategies, grammar, and guided reading. Students meet in book clubs with other students around the same reading level. When not meeting with me, students work in Daily 5 centers: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, and Word Work Students need to read nightly and record it on their Weekly homework sheet. Students can use any books from home or library. You can also count when you read to your child. If you need more books for your child to read at home, they can also check out a take-home book bag from the classroom.

wachowiak2ndGrade.weebly.com Class will be updated usually about once a week. The updates will include: *Newsletter *What We’re Learning each week *Calendar of Events *Rainforest Resources (spelling lists, homework menus) An e-mail will go out to remind you to go check it out. Please take the time to read the newsletter each week to find out what’s going on in our classroom and school.
