The Next Generation

The Next Generation New book coming out January 1, 2017. This book is about us and how we help our physical and spiritual children along their faith journey. We brought several people together to share their lives and ministries in order that we do the best job possible to pass on our faith to our children.

How will we reach The Founders/iGeneration/Generation Z ? The Next Generation How will we reach The Founders/iGeneration/Generation Z ? With all of us – Intentionally!

The Next Generation LIKE STUDENTS, LOVE GOD!!!!! •Loving God is more important than loving this ministry. • Rely on God’s power instead of your own. • Don’t allow ministry busyness to distract you from deepening your relationship with God. • Allow God’s love to leak into every area of this ministry.

The Next Generation WARNING!! You Must: Recharge. Refresh. Rest. Reflect. Renew. Rekindle. Reconnect.

The Next Generation Parents We all have or had them. Many of us are one. They are the key to students spiritual formation! (Get to know them. It will help you understand students and where they are coming from.)

Know your gifts/skills…...and know your limits. The Next Generation Know your gifts/skills…...and know your limits.

Pointing them to things in the Bible Encouraging them The Next Generation Manage Your Time With Students They need you to spend time…... Caring about their spiritual journey Pointing them to things in the Bible Encouraging them

The Next Generation

• Involve students in your everyday life. The Next Generation “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8 • Involve students in your everyday life. • Let normal activities become unique opportunities for connecting with students.

Milestones Celebrate personal and spiritual milestones. The Next Generation Milestones Celebrate personal and spiritual milestones. Let students know someone is watching and supporting them. Baptism Honor roll Touchdown Recital Play Graduation Mission Trip Leading Bible Study

“Fra-gee-lay” You have been entrusted: The Next Generation “Fra-gee-lay” You have been entrusted: Care Confidentiality Listen Safety Responsibility over approval

Help Students Follow Christ The Next Generation Help Students Follow Christ Look to the Bible (you and them) Speak the truth Be a source of accountability (If this book is true, what else matters in the world?)

Which Brings Us To Us Being Bible Scholars The Next Generation Which Brings Us To Us Being Bible Scholars Start with “I don’t know” for most of your answers. Don’t be afraid to not know. To go with that, “Knowing the answer to everything” may be costly. (There are not many quick fixes to the challenges of life.)

Listen The Next Generation

The Next Generation You know you’re not listening well when you… • catch yourself thinking of a response to the very first statement out of a student’s mouth—while she continues to talk. • allow your eyes to wander from a student’s face to other distractions while he’s talking to you. • don’t remember a student’s name 30 seconds after you asked for it. • ask how a student is doing and then, without pausing for a response, continue talking or don’t pay attention to her answer.

The Next Generation You know you’re listening well when you… • listen without interruption. Let your students tell you everything they want to before you respond. • ask specific follow-up questions, not just general ones. After listening to what’s going on in a student’s life, ask questions that’ll dig deeper. • stay focused on the person talking. Move your conversation to a place where you’re free from distractions. • keep the focus of the conversation on the student. When you’re tuned in, he or she will feel valued.

Be a listener. Don’t rush into conversations as a “fixer.” The Next Generation Be a listener. Don’t rush into conversations as a “fixer.” • Every teenager needs someone to hear him or her. • Give students your full attention.
