Use the given answers!! May be helpful to work backwards from the answers. Do you actual need to work or calculate the given statements or can you manipulate the answers to determine which one satisfies the given information?? Ex. Which point is a solution to the system: 2x + 3y = 8 and 4x – 6y = 10 Eliminate 1-2 of the possible answers Eliminating 2 of the questions gives you a 50% chance of choosing the correct answer!

If you are given a line graph and asked to find the equation for the line, always check your MC answers for the y-intercept. The y-intercept is the place on your graph where the line crosses the y-axis (vertical axis). The equations for lines are usually given in the form y = mx + b M = slope = rise/run b = y-intercept Are some of the choices too far “off” so that you can rule them out

Ex. Ex. Which equation best describes the graph? y = 2x + ½ Y = -2x + 2 Y = x + ½ Y = 3x + 2

Equation vs expression If asked to write an equation then your answer must contain an = sign. Ex. y = 3x – 6 AN EQUATION If you are asked to write your answer as an expression then your answer must NOT contain an = sign. Ex. 2x + 3 AN EXPRESSION

If you are given a table of values and asked to find the line of best fit You can either: Place the data in the calc under STAT EDIT then find the regression line by STAT CALC 4:LINREG ENTER ENTER ENTER ENTER ENTER Find the equation by hand by finding the slope, then the y-intercept, then writing your equation. Ex. Find the equation of the line containing the pts (2, 3) (4, 6)

Rules of Probability say…don’t change your answers unless you are positive your original answer is incorrect Most studies show that when a student changes an answer and they are not absolutely correct about their decision, they will change the answer to the incorrect one.

Probability vs. odds Given {1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12} Find probability the number is even. What are the odds you choose an even number from this list?

Forms of a line – they all represent the same line just in different forms! Slope intercept form: Y = mx + b Point Slope Form: y – y1 = m(x – x1) Standard Form: Ax + By = C

Open Ended Questions You need to answer ALL of the open ended questions even if you are not absolutely sure how. Try something! Most students who pass the exam scored at least an 11 out of a possible 24 points. Your goal is to get at least 50% correct on all open ended.

Use the guide buttons and resources Along the top of the test are buttons including highlights, magnifiers, calculators and formula sheets. USE THEM! Only one I may not use is the calculator since you will have my graphing calcs

Use the scrap paper and the graphing calc Do not do calculations in your head. Write them down and do them on the calculator. Do all work neatly on scrap paper. If creating a graph, use graph paper. Use the edge of your index card if you need to create a straight line on your graph paper or scrap paper for accuracy.

Electronics Phones, ipods, etc. are not permitted to be in your possession. When you enter your testing site, you will be asked to turn your phone off, place you name on a sticky sheet and place your phone on top of this paper in a secluded location of the room. Book bags and handbags must be placed in required area of the room.

Completion of test When you are done with your test you may NOT get anything else out to work on or do…not even a read a book. You will be required to sit there, quietly, until all students are done or until the test time is over.

What if I don’t finish in the required time? You are given as much time as needed to complete the exam. If the allotted time is depleted, you will be required to pause your test and will be escorted by an administrator to room 101 to finish your test. There is no penalty for requiring the extra time so if you need it, take it! Remember, all 9th and 10th graders need to pass the exam to graduate.
