UNIT-1 INTRODUCTION OF PPC Standardization Simplification N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Standardization The concept of standardization is applicable to all factors of production namely men, machines, materials, methods and finished goods. Standardization means fixation of some appropriate size, shape, quality, manufacturing process, weight and other characteristics as standards to manufacture of product desired and utility. for example, shaving blades are made of standard size and shape to suit every kind of razor, fasteners. N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Objectives of Standardization To achieve maximum overall economy in terms of Cost Human effort To ensure maximum convenience in use. Standardization leads to simplification, rationalisation, interchangeability of parts and freezing of dimensions or components To adopt the best possible solutions to recurring problems. To facilitate national and international exchange of goods and services and to develop mutual cooperation in the sphere of intellectual, scientific ,technological and economic activity. N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Classification of standardization Basic standardization Various basic elements such as scales and weight, voltage, preferred numbers, preferred sizes, limits and fits, drawing paper size etc.. Dimensional standardization Engineering components such as nuts, bolts, screws, gears, keys, rivits and bearings. Materials standardization Standardization of raw materials.lubricants,coolants,etc.. Equipment standardization Various machines and equipments required for production Process standardization N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Classification of standardization Quality standardization Safety measure standardization Personal standardization Administrative standardization N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Benefits of standardization Reduction of material waste Reduced manufacturing cost Uniform quality of product Reduced maintenance cost Reduced work in process and finished products inventories Increased customer satisfaction Better and quicker product deliveries. N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Simplification Simplification is the process of reducing the variety of products manufactured Simplification of product refers to the elimination of excessive and undesirable or marginal lines of product to eliminate waste and to achieve economy. N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018

Effects of Simplification Before simplification After simplification 100 a Percentage of sales income A B 75 25 60 100 Percentage of products N.DINESHKUMAR AP/MECH/SRIT/PPC/ UNIT1.4 4/24/2018
