Chapter 1 Jess Aarons is an eleven year old boy. He lives on a farm with his mom, dad, and four sisters.

Jess runs all summer long so he can be the fastest boy in school.

Jess doesn’t get along with his family Jess doesn’t get along with his family. He does most of the chores himself. His favorite sibling is his little sister May Belle.

Jess soon finds out that there is a new family moving into the house next to them.

Chapter 2 Jess is excited to go back to school so he can race his peers. He is also looking forward to seeing Miss Edmunds because she likes his art.

One day, Jess sees someone sitting on his fence One day, Jess sees someone sitting on his fence. It is his new neighbor, Leslie Burke. He ignores her.

Chapter 3 It is the first day of school and Leslie is in the same class as Jess. She is not dressed like the other girls. She wears cutoffs and a T-shirt.

It is finally recess and Jess is ready to run It is finally recess and Jess is ready to run. Leslie wants to run too which is unusual for a girl.

The boys don’t want Leslie to run with them but Jess lets her run in his group. Leslie beats all the boys and is the fastest person in school.

Jess is mad that he was beat by a girl Jess is mad that he was beat by a girl. He ignores Leslie the whole way home.

Chapter 4 Jess realizes that it is silly to be mad at Leslie. He thinks they can be good friends. They sit on the bus home together.

On the bus, Jess protects Leslie from a bully named Janice On the bus, Jess protects Leslie from a bully named Janice. Leslie is happy that there is someone willing to fight for her.

Leslie decides that her and Jess need a place to escape Leslie decides that her and Jess need a place to escape. They find a spot in the woods and name it “Terabithia.”

Jess and Leslie’s friendship grows stronger Jess and Leslie’s friendship grows stronger. They spend a lot of time together in Terabithia.

Chapter 5 On the bus to school, Janice steals May Belle’s Twinkies. Jess knows that he can’t fight a girl so he and Leslie plan a way to get back at her.

They plan to write Janice a love letter from a boy in her grade They plan to write Janice a love letter from a boy in her grade. Jess gets to school early and puts the note on Janice’s desk.

Janice gets the love note which tells her to walk home with the boy in her grade. He never shows up so she walks home alone. May Belle is happy that her brother stood up for her.

Chapter 6 Christmas is approaching and Jess doesn’t know what to get Leslie. He sees a sign that says, “Free Puppies” and knows that is what he is going to get her.

Leslie loves the puppy and names it Prince Terrien.

Chapter 7 During recess one day, Jess hears Janice crying in the bathroom. Leslie goes to check on her. Janice appreciates Leslie’s concern and they form a bond.

May Belle tells Jess that she followed him to Terabithia May Belle tells Jess that she followed him to Terabithia. This upsets him because Terabithia is supposed to be for him and Leslie only.

Chapter 8 It has been a very rainy spring and the creek that Jess and Leslie must cross is getting higher and higher. This worries Jess.

Jess fears that no matter how high the creek gets, Leslie will still swing across.

Chapter 9 Jess is out doing his chores when his sister tells him he has a phone call. It is Miss Edmunds on the phone and she is inviting him to Washington to see art galleries and museums.

Jess has a great day in Washington with Miss Edmunds Jess has a great day in Washington with Miss Edmunds. When he gets back, he knows something is wrong because his mother is crying. His sister tells him that Leslie has died.

Chapter 10 Leslie had tried to swing to Terabithia alone and the rope broke. Jess does not believe this at first and runs away.

When Jess wakes up the next morning, he thinks it has just been a nightmare. His father must remind him of what has happened. They go to the Burke’s house to pay their respects.

Chapter 11 Jess gets very upset at the Burke’s house. He runs back to his house, gathers his paints and paper, and throws them into the creek.

The next morning Jess goes back to look for his paints The next morning Jess goes back to look for his paints. Instead, he goes to Terabithia and remembers Leslie.

Jess hears a yell. It is May Belle and she is stuck Jess hears a yell. It is May Belle and she is stuck. Jess helps her cross into Terabithia.

Chapter 12 At school, they have already removed Leslie’s desk. This makes Jess sad.

The Burke’s move away and Jess asks for the wood on their porch The Burke’s move away and Jess asks for the wood on their porch. He brings the wood to Terabithia and makes a bridge.

Jess brings May Belle back to Terabithia and crowns her the new queen.

The End
