Welcome! Thank you for serving the NYPTA by becoming a Committee Chair. NYPTA would like to assist you to understand your new position. This webinar was developed to provide you with a basic orientation. Leadership Roster/Directory On the NYPTA website, within the leadership page, there is a roster that provides the names and contact information for all people currently serving in leadership positions within the NYPTA. Archivist Historian for the Chapter who highlights the proud heritage of this organization. Appointed by the Executive Committee to serve a 3 year term. Funded to attend Delegate Assembly.

Awards Recognizes individuals who have served the Chapter and the profession of physical therapy. Consists of a Chair and 2 members. Vice President is Ex Officio. All positions appointed by the EC to serve a 3 year term. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Kate Teidman is the staff liaison. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Ethics Participates in investigations of all complaints of violations of the Code of Ethics. Consists of a Chair and 2 members. Vice President is Ex Officio. All positions appointed by the EC to serve a 3 year term. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Chair funded to attend Delegate Assembly.

Finance Prepares the Chapter budget, monitors investments, and advises the BOD on matters pertaining to the Chapter’s financial program Chair is NYPTA Treasurer. 3-4 members appointed by the EC to serve a 3 year term. President is Ex-Officio. Committee members funded to attend the committee budget meeting in June and the Fall BOD meeting.

Judicial/Reference As the Judicial Committee, it periodically reviews Chapter and District bylaws and provides counsel and advice to presenters of resolutions and motions at meetings of the BOD to insure proper form and wording. As the Reference Committee, it provides counsel and advice to presenters of resolutions and motions at meetings of the Delegate Assembly to ensure proper form and wording. Consists of the Chair and 2 members. All positions appointed by the EC to serve a 3 year term. Speaker of the Assembly is Ex-Officio. Chair is funded to attend the Spring and Fall BOD meetings. The Winter BOD meeting will be web-based. All committee members are funded to attend Delegate Assembly.

Leadership Encourages new and continued leadership on the District and Chapter levels of the NYPTA and conducts leadership development activities Consists of a Chair and 3-4 members. All positions appointed by the EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Kate Teidman is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based. Coordinates Leadership Development Workshop which is held in conjunction with Delegate Assembly.

Legislative Advisory Panel Monitors all legislative activities that affect the practice of physical therapy in New York State, serves as a resource for related information and recommendations, and oversees the NYPTA Lobby Day. Works closely with Brian Lucey, Esq., Lobbyist. Consists of a Chair and 3 members. All positions appointed by the EC to serve a 3 year term. Each district has a liaison to the panel. President and Vice President are Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Kelly Garceau is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Membership Promote Chapter membership recruitment and retention activities, Coordinate District membership activities. Consists of the Chair and 4 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Carla Stephan and Gloria Baker are staff liaisons to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Minority Affairs Assists public relations efforts to help recruit minority students into physical therapist and physical therapist assistant roles and minority membership and leadership in the NYPTA. Consists of a Chair and 2 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Kate Teidman is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Nominating Prepares a slate of candidates for vacancies in Chapter Officer and Nominating Committee positions and for the HOD and PTA Caucus, and oversees the chapter elections at the Delegate Assembly. Consists of three members who are elected by the members of the Delegate Assembly. The Chair is the senior member of the committee. Each member serves a 3 year term, moving into the Chair position during their 3rd term. Kelly Garceau is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web-based. All committee members are funded to attend Delegate Assembly.

Payment Advisory Panel Monitors insurance issues affecting the practice of physical therapy in New York State and serves as a resource for related information and recommendations. Consists of a Chair and 5 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Kelly Garceau is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Physical Therapist Assistant Fosters communication among physical therapist assistants. Consists of a Chair and 3 members, including the PTA Caucus Representative. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Political Action Raises funds to support our legislative agenda. Consists of a Chair and 2 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Chair is funded to attend Delegate Assembly.

Practice Monitors the practice of physical therapy in New York State and serves as a resource for related information and recommendations, and conducts an annual Issues Forum at Chapter Conference. Consists of a Chair, 1 member, and several Content Experts. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Kelly Garceau is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Program Assists the Chapter Office staff in planning and implementing the programming for the Conference and other continuing education. Consists of a Chair and 4 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Carla Stephan is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Public Relations Promotes and implements public relations activities for the NYPTA. Consists of a Chair and 2 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Each district has a liaison to the Committee. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Gloria Baker and Carla Stephan are staff liaisons to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based.

Research Facilitates clinical research by Chapter members through resource material and grants, and coordinates research platform and poster presentations at the Chapter Conference. Consists of a Chair and 3 members. All positions appointed by EC to serve a 3 year term. Vice President is Ex-Officio. A BOD liaison to the committee is appointed by the EC. Gloria Baker is staff liaison to the committee. Chair is funded to attend the Spring BOD meeting, Delegate Assembly and Fall BOD meeting. Winter BOD meeting will be web based. All committee members are funded to attend the research portion of the Chapter conference.

Duties and Expectations Please go to the NYPTA website under Leadership to view the BOD Manual, the BOD Orientation Handbook and the Policy Manual. Please reference your Committee’s Procedure Manual to find out about specific activities and duties of your Committee. This manual can be found on the NYPTA website by going to your specific committee page within Leadership/Committees.

Time Commitment Total time commitment is dependent upon the duties and activities of your individual committee Common to most committees: Committee conference calls, face to face meetings, and other committee communication. Quarterly Committee Chair “meeting” – may be conference call, webinar or face to face depending on the timing and agenda. Attendance to designated Board of Directors meetings. Attendance to Delegate Assembly.

Time Commitment Completing reports for Board of Directors meetings, annual report to Delegate Assembly, minutes from committee meetings, and Budget Request form. Communication with Chapter Office staff as needed Submitting one article for publication in the Empire State Physical Therapy newsletter. Annual review of Committee Procedure Manual

Budget Related Information Expense reimbursement Attendance requirements, budget information and expense vouchers are found on the website under Leadership – other materials. Annual Budget Request Information emailed in April or May. Once completed, emailed to the Executive Director. Reviewed by Finance Committee in June and tentative budget is completed for the following year. Budget is published in the July/August newsletter and submitted to BOD for approval in October.
