Main holidays~ Aside from religious festivals and the national Carnaval, the major holiday in Venezuela is Independence Day. It is celebrated on April 19. Other public holidays also mark important historical events. They include Simón Bolívar's birthday on July 24, the victory over the Spanish in the Battle of Carabobo on July 5, and the arrival of Columbus in the Americas on October 12.
