B.A.D.D. Orientation Wednesday October 12

B.A.D.D. Brothers- Members are expected to hold each other accountable and remind each other of the expectations as a family. Accountable- All members are held to high expectations regarding behavior, grades, and appearance. Driven- Members should be continuously working to better themselves. Determined- Willing to put past school performance and poor grades behind you and focus on your future.

Mentors If you choose to join BADD, you will be assigned a mentor. This person is an adult will hold you accountable for your actions and grades. Mentors will be talking to your teachers about your grades and behavior. Mentors will be talking to your parents about your grades/behavior. Mentors will be spending time with you whole group or small-group. Mentors can choose to reward good grades and/or behavior.

Community Service We attend the Edgewood Nursing Home on the third Saturday of the month. Members talk with the residents, play games with them, and read to them. This is our way of giving back to the elders of the community. We may be asked to help with other activities as volunteers. Attendance will be taken.

Nursing Home Volunteers

Church Service The whole group attends a member or mentor’s church on the fourth Sunday of the month. This is encouraged so that you can be exposed to other forms of worship. This is NOT mandatory if your parents would rather you attend your own church.

Church 4th Sunday (Why) Please keep in mind that 4th Sunday was chosen to coincide with our middle and high school program as this would be most convenient.

College Campus Tours BADD student leadership will begin to plan trips to college campuses.

College/Business Tours & Speakers Exposure to the collegiate experience, as well as business tours is something we propose to do throughout the 2013-2014 school year. Speakers from the business community will be brought in to some of our meetings.

Fun Events

Fundraising We will be holding car washes in order to raise money for these trips. (Please tell everyone that you know owns a car to come!) Each BADD member is expected to attend. If unable to attend, speak to your mentor. Fundraising is paying for our trips and we will take attendance at fundraisers. Those who choose not to help at car washes or other fund raisers will not be able to attend the “fun” events.

Planned Fun Events Skate Station Air Boxing Game/Movie Night Formal Banquet Cookouts

Communication Communication with your mentor is ESSENTIAL for this program to work. We will find out about your behavior/grades eventually, so be proactive in communicating with your mentor. (Tell us first) Make sure your mentor has updated contact information (if your number changes, let us know) Call your mentor to check on events happening on the weekends.(Set a schedule)

Equipment by Edgar A Guest Figure it out for yourself, my lad, You've all that the greatest of men have had, Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes, And a brain to use if you would be wise. With this equipment they all began, So start for the top and say "I can." Look them over, the wise and great, They take their food from a common plate And similar knives and forks they use, With similar laces they tie their shoes, The world considers them brave and smart. But you've all they had when they made their start. You can triumph and come to skill, You can be great if only you will, You're well equipped for what fight you choose, You have legs and arms and a brain to use, And the man who has risen, great deeds to do Began his life with no more than you. You are the handicap you must face, You are the one who must choose your place, You must say where you want to go. How much you will study the truth to know, God has equipped you for life, But He Lets you decide what you want to be. Courage must come from the soul within, The man must furnish the will to win, So figure it out for yourself, my lad, You were born with all that the great have had, With your equipment they all began. Get hold of yourself, and say: "I can." By Edgar A. Guest
