The Teachers in Crisis Contexts (TiCC) Working Group Training for Primary School Teachers in Crisis Contexts CHARLOTTE

Overview Why the TiCC and the Training Pack? How was the training pack developed? What is in the Training Pack? Frequently Asked Questions What next? CHARLOTTE

Rationale and Background: Why and How CHARLOTTE can we delete this section given James (very detailed!) presentation? Changed the title--not everyone knows the TICC acronym...and it’s klunky...

‘A crisis in teacher professional development’ Teacher shortages, with severe shortages of qualified and female teachers High rates of teacher attrition due to heavy workload combined with low (incentive) pay Lack of common, standardized teacher management policies and practices Absence of standards for teacher training: ad hoc, short term teacher training Lack of harmonized planning and implementation of teacher training amongst partners Complex learners in resource-poor classrooms CHARLOTTE

Teachers in Crisis Contexts Working Group TiCC objectives: To identify problem areas in teacher management and development in crisis contexts To propose and provide open-source solutions First problem: Lack of comprehensive, quality training materials for initial teacher training in crisis contexts Charlotte

Training for Primary School Teachers in Crisis Contexts An open source set of teacher training materials for un(der)qualified teachers in crisis contexts, or as a refresher for qualified teachers. CHARLOTTE Explain why “crisis context” vs. refugee contexts

Contextualisation Needs assessment School visits Planning time with key people Pre-work Guest speakers Participant-centred Teacher perspective MARY (Charlotte what do you mean by “Teacher Perspective”)? JUst wanted to stress the importance of listening to the teachers throughout the process. Engaging teachers, school visits, identifying speakers (this is identified in the materials for when it might be most appropriate); teachers perspective--importance of listing ot the teachers throughout the whole process to adapt to their needs, challenges etc

Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions Who can be a trainer? 2) Are translations available? 3) Is the training certified? MARY Certification Mary (acknowledge the question, and that right now is not accredited by any univeristy or college, however, we would like to see if there are HEI who would be willing to review and see how/if it can be accredited. Not there yet. Translation: translation has taken place (French and Arabic?) of some sections; contact --- if you want to be linked up with agencies tpd@ineesite.org

Tips for introducing to your agency Information sharing: INEE website, blog series Knowledge building: presentation, webinar, training Link to internal annual planning Make the case: interagency, flexibility, adaptability MARY Presentation to all education staff Emphasis that it’s first inter-agency teacher professional development initiative, to address needs for ad hoc responses, overlap, etc. and need for more coordination. Emphasize flexibility and need for contextualization (guidance throughout the guide on how to contextualize) Direct to INEE website to show where to download, blog posts on how different agencies are using it. Discussion how it can be integrated into current planning
