AVID Elective Class Proven Achievement. Life Long Advantage.

What is the AVID Elective class? Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success. Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships. Creates a positive peer group for students. Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination.

What happens in the AVID classroom? Tutorials are the HEART. Tutorials are a time and place where students come with complex questions from any content class and get support to confront tough problems and solve them within their own means. Students use inquiry to help the presenter through their critical thinking process. WICOR is the curriculum. Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.

Tutorials Two times a week students bring a Tutorial Request Form that has a Point of Confusion to present to their Tutorial group made up of their peers and a tutor.

During the Tutorial All group members use resources (Cornell Notes, INB, textbooks, etc.), inquiry, and critical thinking to guide the presenters through their Points of Confusion. All group members also take 3 column notes during the presentation.
