Spelling Words: which, their, said, if, do Ms. Pullen’s Adventurous 2nd Grade Class September 11– September 15, 2017 Mark Your Calendars A Peek at the Week… Contact Information Shared Reading/Language: This week we will read the story The Sunsets of Miss Olivia Wiggins. We will review describing the overall structure of the story, including the beginning and how the story concludes the action. RL2.5. We will also continue to ask and answer questions such as who, what, when, where and why. RL.2.1 We will also practice asking questions when we read and using our background knowledge to learn new information. RL.2.10 Language Skills: I will introduce using adverbs to describe a text. We will also discuss past, present, and future tense verbs as well as irregular verbs. L.2.1 and L.2.6 Writing: We will continue Lucy Calkins Writing, learning how to set our writing goals, revising with intent, and using mentor texts. W.2.3, W.2.5, W.2.8 Math: We will begin chapter 2, addition with and without regrouping in the ones place. 2.NBT.1, 2. You can pay online at mypaymentsplus.com or you can send cash or a check. All money should be sent in an envelope and should be labeled with your child’s first and last name. No checkouts after 1:15. Please be prepared to show proper I.D. Please send an excuse when your child misses a day. An excuse on the Rankin County School form should be turned in within 2 days so you will not be turned in to truancy after 5 unexcused absences. If you need anything, do not hesitate to email me. Reading Fair The StoneBridge Reading Fair is coming soon! We would love to have every child participate this year. The trifold story boards are being provided by the district. Student Guidelines can be found on our website or at READINGFAIR@MDEK12.ORG. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st place winner in each category. All boards will need to be turned in by Tuesday, October 24th. We are looking forward to seeing all the creative story boards! Check out examples of reading fair boards on Pinterest.
