The 4Ts Our 4Ts to help young people living with Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes in children and young people: Diabetes UK’s two campaigns The 4Ts The campaign to raise awareness of the four main symptoms of Type 1 diabetes Type 1 Diabetes: Make the grade The campaign for quality diabetes care in every school

4Ts campaign summary Goal: Raise awareness of the four major symptoms of Type 1 diabetes and so promote earlier diagnosis What are we doing? Distributing materials to public Online campaigning Writing to press Progress: Thousands of posters distributed Questions asked in Parliament Awareness raised throughout the UK

How can local groups raise awareness of the 4Ts? Distribute materials Contact local healthcare professionals Write to local media Host events Share campaign videos online Get local politicians involved If you have other ideas speak to your regional or national Diabetes UK office

Activity: What will we do? Get into groups and take fifteen minutes to discuss the best way of doing some of these actions. Local group actions Distribute materials • Contact local healthcare professionals Write to local media • Host events Share campaign videos online • Get local politicians involved If you have other ideas speak to your regional or national Diabetes UK office

Let’s plan What? Why? When? Where? Who? What leads to amputation?   Damage to the nerves carrying pain sensation from the feet to the brain causes numbness. This means that if you have cuts, bruises or infections they might remain unnoticed, and if infections are untreated they will spread. As well as this, the arteries to the feet can narrow, reducing the supply of oxygen and nutrients essential to keep skin nourished and to heal cuts. So, injuries can progress to ulcers, and ulcers are slow to heal – unfortunately only two thirds eventually do. Diabetic foot ulcers can lead to amputation.

Thank you coming! Thanks for getting involved! Get more materials from shop.diabetes.org.uk Find out more about campaign on www.diabetes.org.uk For more ways to get involved in the campaign, sign up for Diabetes Voices
