All different all equal

Dyslexia

Means you have difficulties with reading, Dyslexia Means you have difficulties with reading, It took me longer than my friends to learn to read . Now they can read more quickly than me but that’s cool, I read at my own speed .

Dyslexia Sometimes I have to concentrate so hard on reading each word I forget all about what I have read. It can be a bit frustrating.

Tom Cruise

Dyslexia If people interrupt me or talk when I am reading I really can’t concentrate. I forget what I’ve read.

Dyslexia spelling and What is it with phonics? All those sounds I never know how to spell them!

So much to write for homework I hate spelling tests, I can’t remember those spellings even though I learnt them! So much to write for homework

What did the teacher say? I can’t remember? and remembering things and getting myself organised. What did the teacher say? I can’t remember?

I know I put my homework somewhere. Where’s my book bag? I know I put my homework somewhere.

All this can make you feel emotional and fed up at times This is allowed! It’s trickier to learn at school if you have dyslexia, until you find your best ways of learning. But don’t give up! Perseverance is the key, right through secondary school, university and work.

Dyscalculia Sometimes dyslexia is around numbers not words.

You’re born with dyslexia Sometimes other people in your family can be dyslexic too Mum Dad Uncle Aunt sister brother

How many people have dyslexia? 10% of people in the UK have dyslexia, so that means at least 3 children in your class will have dyslexia.

You can be very dyslexic or a bit dyslexic. If you are more than a bit dyslexic, it can help to have a diagnosis. A diagnosis is when a dyslexia specialist assesses a person and says, They write a report and which helps you and your family to understand what is tricky for you and your best way of learning Yes you have dyslexia.

So if you are dyslexic, you need to find your best ways to learn. Often using colour (pens, paper, plastic sheets, paper). Taking notes. This is a mind map.

You learn best by Doing things (being practical) Seeing things for yourself Being read to rather than reading– you might like talking books (look at audible on Amazon)

If you think or know you are dyslexic and would like to chat about it… Come and see me or your teacher. We understand reading tests, spelling tests and writing are tricky for you, but will help you all we can and encourage you.
