What tectonic plates caused the earthquake in Japan? Back in January, Japanese seismologists warned that the tectonic plates colliding beneath the Pacific Ocean off the north-east coast of Japan were poised to slip catastrophically. The researchers were surprised only by the sheer size of the magnitude 9.0 monster that was unleashed when the plates at last let go on March 11th. The Eurasian and Pacific Tectonic Plates.

What is the total death toll in Japan thus far? The death toll from Japan's earthquake and tsunami rose to more than 9,000, said Japanese officials on Tuesday. The number of confirmed dead is 9,079 12,645 remain missing, according to the National Police Agency of Japan. An additional 2,663 people were classified as injured. * As of March 22nd

Who has taken actions to help the Japanese people? American Red Cross Global Giving Save the Children Salvation Army Americares International Medical Corps Shelter Box World Vision Disaster response teams to help the Japanese, they operate on a volunteer basis.

How have the complications with the nuclear power plant affected the Japanese people? More than 67 people have been exposed to nuclear radiation in Fukushima prefecture after radioactive leak from nuclear power plant that damaged after hit by earthquake and tsunami. (Saturday March 19)

Nuclear Disaster Japan’s nuclear safety agency increased levels of nuclear danger approaching the level 7, or the highest level on an international scale for nuclear danger.

Nuclear Disaster Foods from and near the center of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last week had been found to contain high levels of nuclear radiation.

Nuclear Disaster Evacuation of residents near the center of a nuclear reactor in Fukushima, Japan, continues to be done. Until now, there are about 140 thousand residents who had been evacuated from the dangerous radius. (March 12)

Nuclear Disaster As of March 13th, there have been 13 nuclear leaks from the surrounding areas in Japan from the tsunami in response to the earthquake.

Effects of Radioactive Exposure Cancer Leukemia Birth Defects Infertility Hemorrhaging Loss of Vital Cells Vomiting Death

Precautions The people of Japan have been encouraged to travel by car rather than walk because of the chance of exposure to nuclear radiation. They are trying to make it where if the Japanese people are not exposed outdoors or out in the rain, without a skin protector.
