Giraffes Are Being Poached To Death By. Ayla Schenck What is a Giraffe’s daily life like? Why are Giraffes being killed? Do you want to be the person who makes Giraffes extinct? What's going to happen if Giraffes keep getting killed? Where is this happening?

Sticking Our Necks Out for Giraffes There are so many animal issues in the world, I couldn't address all of them. So I choose to write about Giraffes. Giraffes have been poached and killed for the past 20 years and Giraffes are still being poached and killed today. I think that poaching is wrong, but some people think otherwise. Some poachers think, “Parts of a Giraffe are a great food resource.” I will be exploring: Why are Giraffes being killed? Where is this happening? What is a Giraffe’s daily life like? What’s going to happen if Giraffes keep getting killed?

Why are Giraffes being killed? Did you know that every single year over 600 Giraffes die? Well it’s true -- a lot of Giraffes die each year. Some Giraffes are dying because of poaching (being poached for their legs and necks), killed for their soft unique tails and habitat loss and more human population growth so less space for Giraffes to live. For the last 15 years, the number of Giraffes has gone down by more than 40%. Researchers say “Giraffes are being poached for their legs and necks because they have a solid and fluid food resources that humans can eat. This is why a lot of Giraffes are dying. But, not all types of Giraffes are in danger of dying. There are seven types of Giraffes that are in danger of dying. There are only nine different types of Giraffes, which means just two types of Giraffes aren't in danger of extinction. Power Words Poached: Killed for certain parts of their bodys Extinction: When all of a certain animal is dead.

Where is this happening? All Giraffes that are dying are not all dying in the same area, most Giraffes are dying in Central, Eastern and Southern Africa. The range runs from Chad in the North to South Africa. One spot in Africa where hunters are sure to find some Giraffes, is places that have acacia and mimosa trees. Most Giraffes love acacia and mimosa. Some hunters wait by these trees until a Giraffe comes and bites into one of the fruits and the hunter kills them. You would think the Giraffes would know where to go and where not to go by now. But, the issue is Giraffes keep leaving the areas that the hunters are, so the hunters keep finding new areas to go hunting. So soon there won't be very many spots in Africa where Giraffes will be safe.

What’s a Giraffe's Daily Life Like? (Giraffe’s Perspective) You’re going to an acacia or a mimosa tree to take a bite out of the fresh fruit with your calf. When you lean in to take a bite, you hear something suspicious. You protect your calf and when you're trying to protect your calf, you hear a gunshot. The next thing you know you are dead, with your calf all alone in the wilderness, feeling like your calf is not safe. Right after you die, your calf is not very safe, the next thing you know your calf is dead too. You are both dead, because of the poachers and hunters. Don’t let this happen. We want Giraffes to be safe, not in danger. Giraffes should be able to go eat fruit without being scared. Power Words Calf: A baby Giraffe

What’s Going To Happen If Giraffes Keep Getting Killed? Do you want to have Giraffes in the world? Well, at this rate there won't be any left really soon. Research shows that in approximately 15 years, there will be no more Giraffes in the world. In 1999, there were roughly 140,000 Giraffes left in the world. As of 2015, there are only 80,000, approximately. Studies show that a lot of animals are endanger of extinction, but Giraffes and Elephants are some of the worst. We need to do something about it, stop the hunting and poaching. A lot of animals are suffering because of the hunters and poachers. You don't want to be the one who makes Giraffes extinct, do you? Power Words Approximately: Roughly (a guess)

Continue To Look Up To The Giraffes Giraffes are in danger of extinction! 600 Giraffes die a year, but not all Giraffes die in the same area. Giraffes daily life and do you want to have Giraffes in the world. You don’t have to be the one who makes Giraffes extinct, you can be the one who saves Giraffes! Giraffes deserve to stay alive, WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU? Can we all help with the problem? I say you can, so stand up and save Giraffes from extinction!
