Electoral Vote vs. Popular Vote Electoral vote is taken at the Electoral College (not a real place) Electors come from each state to vote for one person for President and one person for Vice President They did not always run together…sometimes these two could completely dislike each other Popular votes come from YOU, the voter! Four presidents in history have won the popular vote but not the Electoral vote They are not dependent on each other

Electoral Vote vs. Popular Vote Complicated Answer… Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution Simple Answer… Each state is entitled to a certain number of electors (equal to their number of Senators and Representatives) and they vote Nothing complicated about it! You vote, your vote counts towards the popular vote Usually the popular vote in each state ties to the electoral votes awarded by that state

Electoral Votes Total number of electoral votes = 538 100 Senators + 435 Representatives + 3 D.C. votes = 538 Magic Number to win the Presidency = 270 Theoretically, there can be a tie in electoral votes (269) But let’s hope that doesn’t happen…
