Obama's Clean Energy Plan vs. Technological Reality Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009: “a unified and comprehensive strategy to address the key legal, regulatory and other barriers to the commercial-scale deployment of carbon capture and sequestration.” Brendan Stolarz http://www.bustler.net/index.php/article/coal_power_plant_mutation_by_bogdan_chipara/

People of color are 47% more likely to live in areas near hazardous waste sites, and in areas with poor overall air quality.

UNEQUAL EXPOSURE IN MASSACHUSETTS LOW VS HIGH INCOME HIGH VS LOW MINORITY 3-4x exposure to hazardous waste 1.5-4x as many toxic landfills 3-7x air pollutants/polluters 2-5x as many power plants 2x as many trash incinerators 4-9x exposure to hazardous waste 2-3x as many toxic landfills 3-5x air pollutants/polluters James Warren

Environmental Justice The United States Environmental Protection Agency defines environmental justice as "the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, sex, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies." Charn- Young Chung

Many studies show that there is a disproportionate amount of pollution in communities occupied by the poor and minorities. These communities must deal with the adverse effects of pollution while more affluent communities remain unscathed. The impact of exposure to these hazards significantly affects the quality of life in these areas. What can we do? Identify problem areas, engage in cleaner production, focus on affected communities. Joshua Rivard
