Acts 15:36 – 41 36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing." 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Acts 16:1-5 1 He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek. 2 The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. 3 Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

Acts 16:6-10 6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." 10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Who defines our mission?

Who defines our mission? God is the one who defines our mission

What is our mission?

Matthew 28:18-20 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Our Mission: Make disciples

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Our Mission: Make disciples Implies: We are disciples who make disciples who will make disciples.

Tools to accomplish our mission Jesus presence and authority

Tools to accomplish our mission Jesus presence and authority John 17:18 18 "As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. John 20:21 21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

Tools to accomplish our mission Jesus presence and authority Created to complete certain good works

Tools to accomplish our mission Jesus presence and authority Created to complete certain good works Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Tools to accomplish our mission Jesus presence and authority Created to complete certain good works Given spiritual gifts

Tools to accomplish our mission Jesus presence and authority Created to complete certain good works Given spiritual gifts 1 Corinthians 12:4-31 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good…11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines….14 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many…27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

If the mission is to make disciple making disciples, how do I fit into that process? Acknowledge that we are to be on mission Discover and deploy our spiritual gifts 1 Peter 4:10-11 10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Acknowledge that we are to be on mission Discover and deploy our spiritual gifts Discover our one thing What are we passionate about? Philippians 3:12-14 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Acknowledge that we are to be on mission If the mission is to make disciple making disciples, how do I fit into that process? Acknowledge that we are to be on mission Discover and deploy our spiritual gifts Discover our one thing What are we passionate about? What compels us? 1 Corinthians 9:16-17 16 Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.

Acknowledge that we are to be on mission If the mission is to make disciple making disciples, how do I fit into that process? Acknowledge that we are to be on mission Discover and deploy our spiritual gifts Discover our one thing What are we passionate about? What compels us? What is our ambition? Romans 15:20-21 20 It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation. 21 Rather, as it is written: "Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand."
