Elements and Principles part 2

Design elements and principles The ways that artists use the elements of art in a work of art utilizing….. Contrast Repetition Alignment Proximitry Balance Proportion Rhythm Harmony Emphasis

Balance: Radial Symmetry- Asymmetrical- one side is different from the other side. Visual balance through circles. Parts of an object/pictures are regularly arranged & radiate from a central point. Symmetrical- both sides are mirror images.

Proportion When all parts of an artwork fit well together: size, amount, and location Example: the size of the horses face to the rest of his body or the size of the deer’s head in proportion to his body.

Rhythm/Repetition Repeat lines, forms, shapes, colors, textures, and patterns. Creates movement, a mood or feeling.

Emphasis The center of interest or focal point in design. It draws your eye to the main idea, shape or focal point. Place things in prominent positions. Use interesting or unusual shapes and forms. Use contrasting colors. Leave space around objects. Use special lighting.

Harmony Unity- Variety- Combination of similar and different elements. 2 elements are; Unity and Variety. Unity- Feeling of harmony in an artwork; all parts belong together. Variety- Contrast or difference that adds surprise, interest, and life to a room or design

Thanks for watching…….. Remember a separate narration/information form must be completed. Next slide shows supporting information that is required for all home environment exhibits- check off and explain steps taken, and the information must also include elements or principles of design used.
