English and Literacy Every pupil in Primary 3 will follow programmes of study for:- Listening Talking Reading Writing

Mathematics and Numeracy In P3 we focus on the following areas:- Problem-solving and enquiry Information handling Number, money and measurement Shape, position and movement

Social Studies This session we will learn about the following:- People in Society – Anti Litter Campaign People in the Past – The Romans People and Place – Our Local Area

Science We will be learning about:- Forces– Magnets Planet Earth – Sun, Moon and Stars - Food Chains Biological Systems – Germs Materials – Recycling Materials

Expressive Arts Art and Design - Class Teacher Music – Mrs Fingland and Mrs Duggie Dance - Class teacher

Health and Wellbeing Personal development is essentially concerned with: self-awareness self-esteem Social development is essentially inter-personal relationships independence and inter-dependence Physical Education with specialist from EHS and Class Teacher.

Religious and Moral Education The Parables of Jesus Passover Easter Buddhism

French French –Miss MacLean will be teaching French weekly.

Homework In Primary 3 all homework tasks are written in diaries. Each week there will be a small amount of Language and/ or Maths. Occasionally pupils will be asked to complete a piece of homework related to a class topic. Please ensure that the homework diary is checked and signed each night. This is a useful means of communication. Homework shouldn’t take more than 15 – 20 minutes a night. If there are any concerns regarding homework please note in the diary.

Homework Homework may be marked in a variety of ways: Class discussion and pupil marking their own jotter – Self-assessment strategies Class discussion and peer marking jotter work – Peer-assessment strategies Teacher marking with assessment comment when necessary Class teacher will always review completed homework activities to ensure homework is completed to agreed standard.

Homework Homework will be differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils. Please contact the class teacher if your child is finding homework activities too challenging. By Primary three the children should be beginning to challenge themselves independently through personal reading.

Supporting your child at home Here are some of the ways you can support your child at home: Encourage reading for enjoyment in the house. Why not download stories from the internet to listen to? Regular discussion about current affairs/environmental issues. Encourage your child to be a responsible citizen.
