Teaching British values – tackling extremism

What are we teaching: The fundamental British values of democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty; tolerance and mutual respect of those with different faiths and beliefs.

‘Developing Critical Learners’ Not about imposing our own views. Not about avoiding challenging discussion. Facilitating debate that is focused on our values. Allowing young people to look at both sides of an argument and to make their own judgments.

Useful Resources http://www.wewillinspire.com/ - British Muslim women against extremism. http://www.wherestheline.co.uk/ - Lessons and lesson plans looking at different forms of extremism including football hooliganism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DOlwLs9unA – Diary of a Badman. A tongue in cheek look at the dangers of grooming and radicalisation.
