Proteins Proteins help your body heal and play an important role in fighting disease because parts of your immune system are made of proteins. They are made of chemical building blocks called amino acids. Foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, and soybeans provide all the amino acids your body needs. A person who follows a vegetarian diet may need to combine certain plant foods, such as beans and rice to gain all the needed amino acids. Cholesterol Cholesterol is a fatty substance found in the blood. It is a waxy chemical that our bodies produce and needs in small amounts LDL (low-density lipoprotein) HDL (high-density lipoprotein) Collects on the walls of arteries and forms plaque Removes LDL from the arteries Plaque is a thick, hard substance. If too much plaque builds up it can block the arteries and cause heart attacks and strokes.
