Why YouTube? Your videos are a whole lot more fun when you can share them online, and YouTube is one of the best ways to do that. Video files are really big and can be difficult to transfer from one computer to another. While it's mostly a simple operation, it's not something everyone knows how to do. This guide provides a walkthrough to help newcomers sign up for a YouTube account and upload their first video.

Making an Account Go to youtube.com. Click the large blue "Create Account" button, or the smaller link with the same name at the top right of the page. Fill out the form with your personal information. If you have a Gmail address, entering it as your email address in this form will save you some time later. When you're done filling out the form, click the "I Accept" button. If you used your Gmail account when creating your YouTube account, you'll be asked to link them together on the next page. If this is the case, link the accounts. If you did not use your Gmail account (because you don't have one) you'll be asked to create one on the next page. If this is the case, create a Gmail account and it will be linked to your new YouTube account. Now you're signed up and should be automatically signed in. You'll know if you're signed in if you see your YouTube account name in the upper right corner of the screen. If you don't, you should see a "Sign In" link up there. Click that, then sign in with your new YouTube username and password.

Step 1 Make sure you're signed into your account by looking up at the top righthand part of the page. If you see your username, you're signed in.

Step 2 To the left of your username, you'll find a link called "Upload." Click on that.

Step 3 A new page will load and you'll be presented with two options. The first option is a yellow button labeled "Upload video" and a link titled "Record from webcam." You want to click the "Upload video" button.

Step 4 Once you've clicked the "Upload video" button, you'll a new window pop up that will let you select a file from your hard drive. Select the video you want to upload and click the "Choose" button. Be sure that the filename includes your prominent Roman 2014 AND MarshLatin. Example: Julius Caesar MarshLatin 2014

Step 5 The video will start to upload and you'll see its progress as well as a bunch of other options. Make sure you do not close this page until the video has finished uploading or it will not finish. While the video is uploading you can change the name, add a description, set your privacy options, and fill out other relevant information.

Step 6 Once the video has finished uploading it will need to spend some time processing on YouTube's servers before it is ready for viewing online. You'll be able to watch it process at the top of the page. Once it reaches 100%, you'll see a link at the top of the screen that you can click to view your video. Alternatively, you can always find your videos by click on your username at the top left of the page and then choosing "Videos" (which may be labeled as "My Videos" for some accounts). This will let you access all the videos you have uploaded.

Step 7 When you're on your video's page, you'll be able to watch it and share it. You'll find a button labeled "Share" underneath the video that will provide you with a link to send to other people and a few other sharing options, such as email and Facebook. Please share via email with my school email: marshaj@fultonschools.org

DONE! Congratulations, you've just uploaded your video to YouTube. Now that you know how it works, you should have no trouble doing it again and again.

RUBRIC Task Description: Student will to create a video project that details a specific aspect of the course. The presentation should include appropriate photographs, video, music, graphs, and other visual aids.

Partially Proficient: 5-9 Incomplete: 0-4 ACTIVITY Exemplary: 15-20 Proficient: 10-14 Partially Proficient: 5-9 Incomplete: 0-4 Concept Has a clear picture of what they are trying to achieve. Student has moved beyond simply using pictures from power point slides, individual shots show movement and are interesting. Has a fairly clear picture of what they are trying to achieve. Has creative transitions and a variety of media used in the final product. Has brainstormed their concept, and has some evidence of creative elements used to communicate it. Little effort has been spent on brainstorming and refining a concept. Unclear on the goals and how the project objectives will be met. Script/ Script The script illustrates the video presentation structure with sketches of each scene. Script is read smoothly without any pauses and shows pitch variation and interesting commentary. A script was clearly used, but there are mistakes made in the reading either in pronunciation or a lack of pitch variation. Commentary is not particularly interesting. It is difficult to tell whether the student used a script in producing their audio. Pauses or direct reading of material on slides are evident. There is no evidence of a script or script. Content/ Organization The content includes all pertinent information about the famous Roman and is creative, compelling and clearly written. A rich variety of supporting information in the video contributes to the understanding of the project’s main idea. Events and messages are presented in a logical order. Includes properly cited sources. Information is presented with accurate, current supporting information that contributes to understanding the project’s main idea. Details are logical and persuasive information is effectively used. The content includes most information about the famous Roman with a progression of ideas and supporting information. Includes properly cited sources. The content does not present important information, is vague, and some of the supporting information does not seem to fit the main idea or appears as a disconnected series of scenes with no unifying main idea. Includes few citations and few facts. Content lacks a central theme, clear point of view and logical sequence of information. Much of the supporting information is irrelevant to the overall message. The viewer is unsure what the message is because there is little persuasive information and only one or two facts about the topic are articulated. Information is incorrect, out of date, or incomplete. No citations included. Video Quality Movie was completed and had all required elements. The video was well edited and moves smoothly from scene to scene with proper use of transitions. Movie was completed and contained all required items. Editing was not done as well as it should have been. Some poor shots remain. Movie is still somewhat choppy. Movie was made, but had very little if any editing. Many poor shots remain. Video was very fragmented and choppy There was no movie, or tape was totally unedited Audio Audio and other enhancements were well used. Students voice is clear, background music is appropriate and does not distract from narrative Audio and other enhancements were utilized, but not for maximum effect. Students voice occasionally hard to understand. Some issues with background music Little to no audio reinforcement. Audio quality is very poor and hard to understand. Background music takes away from narrative or is not present. No transitions or audio support of any kind. . Timeliness All project deadlines were met. Most project deadlines were met.
