Each part is a hyperlink to a slide with an example and more audio help

Detailed Outline Introductory Paragraph Body Paragraph #1 Hook T.A.SM. Thesis Body Paragraph #1 T/S(society does (not) put pressure on it’s citizens when) CQT Transition Sentence Body Paragraph #2 = Counter Argument) Help T/S Body Paragraph #3 T/S CQT Transition Sentence Body Paragraph #4 Transition Sentence (not needed) Conclusion Paragraph Restate Thesis Restate Topic Sentences Connect back to Hook Optional

Counter Argument (2nd body paragraph) T/S Granted, one has to admit that some people are able to break away from the pressure. C-Early in Goldstein’s essay, she talks about relaxing at a local diner. She remarks, Q- “I couldn’t help but notice how “cool” everybody looked—and not in a Vanity-Fair-photo-shoot kind of way” (1). T- Here Mrs. Goldstein remarks that people around here standout as cool and not because they fit the style of the most recent fashion magazine. Admittedly, the writer points out what we’ve everyone has thought that someone else is doing something uniquely cool. Therefore, it is possible to end up unique on occasion. T/S Granted, / Admittedly, / Undeniably, C Mention writer’s name Q - T- 3 parts 1. Paraphrase the quote in your words 2. Acknowledge that the other side of the argument has a point. 3. Clincher Always have a clincher 

Hook Help: Don’t worry about this until you are nearly finished with the essay. If you’re ready, remember you can ask a question, but those are cheap. Try instead to state something interesting (shocking) or to use a related quote from someone important. Ex: Growing up, I always thought my uncle did his own thing because he had a huge beard. I thought he was different, still nice, but no other man I knew had a beard. It turns out, he has a lot of biker friends with beards.

TASM It’s important to always mention the Title, Author and complete a quick SuMmary of the anchor text. “The Sociology of Leopard Man” by Logan Feys and “Is Individuality the New Conformity?” by Daisy Goldstein are the anchor texts.

Thesis…eeeee!! Yikes!! So, what’s your opinion in 1-3 sentences about the topic. That goes at the end of the 1st paragraph. Thesis needs to outline your argument (give 2 reasons 1counterargument) Question to help you: What do you think about individuality and how it confronts or conflicts with society and social pressures? Your answer is the working thesis. I believe that society is wrong for putting constant pressure on people Society is tough on individuals; nevertheless, a person can find room to be his or her own person.
