Organic weed management in orchard

Cultivation In systems where permanent soil covering is applied cultivation may be limited to a row-strip under the dripline In systems where mulches are employed for weed suppression under the crop cultivation used to control weeds and incorporate cover crops between the rows

cultivation must be kept shallow to minimize damage to crop roots to avoid bringing more weed seeds near the surface to germinate cultivated orchard floor

In-row tillage In large-scale plantings of trees or vines where in-row tillage is desired: tractor-mounted cultivators extend from the tractor and can till right up to the tree or vine without damaging the plant

Weeder geese Geese feed heavily on weeds –especially grasses– and also to remove windfall fruit* *considerable literature citing their use in strawberries and occasional mention of usage in blueberries, bramble fruits and tree orchards geese in orchard

Flame weeding = use of torch-directed flame to kill weeds not by burning them but rather by searing them and causing the plant cells to rupture frequency of application is needed to be quite high costly treatment
