Plate transfer and cancellation process version 1/03/08

Plate transfer states States in orange (dark grey if printed in b/w) allow plates to transfer to a new unit. Plates must remain on the vehicle in light grey states NH WA VT ME ND MT MA MN OR ID WI** NY RI SD MI CT WY PA NJ IA NE OH IL IN DE NV UT WV CO VA MD CA KS MO KY* NC TN AZ OK AR SC NM GA AL MS LA TX FL PR HI AK * KY – If the vehicle is being transferred out of state, the KY plates must be returned to DMV once the plates for the new state have been received. Otherwise, the plates remain with the vehicle. ** WI – Passenger can transfer, but commercial cannot.

Plate transfers and cancellations * Customer should return plates to DMV for potential refund of unused portion and/or taxes. GE does not do this for them. ** VA – Driver or Fleet Manager should also “de-list” the vehicle with the VA Commissioner of Revenue. *** CA - Keep plate on vehicle. CA release of liability will automatically be applied for by GE when the vehicle is sold. Continued next slide…

Plate transfers and cancellations …Continued from prior slide * Customer should return plates to DMV for potential refund of unused portion and/or taxes. GE does not do this for them. ** VA – Driver or Fleet Manager should also “de-list” the vehicle with the VA Commissioner of Revenue.

Who owns plate transfers and cancellations? Fleet Managers must recognize the complexity of the plate transfer and cancellation processes and educate their drivers accordingly Transfers and cancellations of plates can save you money, but is not hassle free. Many variables are out of scope for GE (i.e. “customer arranged offer to purchase”, and “driver sales”) Drivers must provide a copy of their current vehicle registration in order for the dealer to transfer the plate Section 9 “Surrender of Vehicles” of the Master Lease Agreement assigns ownership of plate returns to the lessee A dealership facilitates the process, but they do not own the process. It is not the dealership’s responsibility to educate the driver

Plate cancellation ensures no future issues with: * Continuing Personal Property Tax Charges * Delinquent Emission Inspections * Insurance Lapses * Violations

Plate cancellation Plates should be turned in to GE when: GE will ensure returned plates are properly disposed of and cancelled with the DMV’s Mail plates to: GE Fleet Services Attn: RapidTag/Plate Returns 3 Capital Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55124 Plates should be turned in to GE when: Vehicle is turned in for sale, and plate won’t be transferred to replacement vehicle Vehicle moves to a new state and goes through state transfer Plates should remain on the vehicle in the states that require it (AK, CA, HI, KY, LA, MN, MS, OK, PR, SD, WA) State transfers includes a pre-addressed plate return envelope with all transactions. Simply drop the plates in the mail. “Company Arranged Offer to Purchase” and “Driver Sales” will include plate return information in the sale paperwork to the purchaser.
