May 2016 doc.: IEEE 802.11-16/0651r0 May 2016 Abstract This document provides a summary of the current status of the 802 EC 5G SC and the documents it is creating. The goal is to discuss and generate 802.11 inputs to the SC documents that are to be provided to the 802 EC 5G SC at the upcoming SC F2F meeting on May 20, 13:00-16:00 HST in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Note: this document contains strawman proposals for some inputs to 802 EC 5G SC. These strawman proposals should be understood to be a starting point for discussion and not a finished product to be approved for submission. Rev1 of this document adds 2 straw polls, with the results, that were taken at the Ad Hoc session. Rev2 adds an outline to the presentation for the Tuesday AM1 WNG meeting. Review 802 EC 5G SC status A Draft Report has been created [1] May 2016 doc.: IEEE 802.11-16/0651r0 May 2016 Review 802 EC 5G SC status The 802 Executive Committee 5G Standing Committee had its first meeting March 14, 15 at the 802 Plenary, Macau, CN (minutes: [11]) It has subsequently had CC on March 30, April 13, April 20, April 27, and May 11. (minutes: [9], [7], [6], [4], [2], respectively) Approved Scope: To provide a report on the following items to the EC: Costs and benefits of creating an IEEE 5G specification, Costs and benefits of providing a proposal for IMT-2020, considering possible models of a proposal: as a single technology, as a set of technologies, or as one or more technologies within a proposal from external bodies (e.g., 3GPP) During its lifetime, to act as the communication point with other IEEE organizations on this topic. A Draft Report has been created [1] The report provides an outline and frames the scope of the report The report also calls for contributions to complete the report Joseph Levy (InterDigital) Joseph Levy (InterDigital)
