SABOTEURS VERSUS SUPERPOWERS April 30th, 2016 Chantal R. Thorn, PhD Consulting chantal@chantalthorn.com 1 1

ROAD TRIP ITINERARY We’re going on a root cause roadtrip! Root cause heavy Review common saboteurs and your results A step by step process to partner with the saboteurs Quick pit stop at the superpowers attraction 2 2

SHALL WE GO ON A ROADTRIP? PHYSICAL includes eating healthy, drinking lots of water, getting plenty of exercise de-cluttering your home and office (so you have a feeling of spaciousness and manageability) taking time away from computers, TV, and telephones enjoying moments to rest and replenish EMOTIONAL setting clear boundaries on your time and energy surrounding yourself with positive people and affirming or inspiring messages addressing any issues or problems so that issues don’t build up giving and receiving love, kindness and support spending time with people you care about and who care about you PSYCHOLOGICAL personal and professional development giving attention to things that are in your control (sphere of influence) taking time for personal reflection noticing your inner experiences, thoughts and feelings cultivating self-awareness through such things as journaling, getting feedback from others, meditation, coaching/counselling SPIRITUAL prayer, meditation, visualization, practicing gratitude, spending time in nature identifying what is meaningful to you, practicing mindfulness and being present in the moment 3 3

GASSING UP: START WHERE YOU ARE BECAUSE….. Life is beautiful. Life is brutal. Life is bruitiful. (thank you Glennon Doyle Melton) A calm/worry free life does not necessarily = a perfect/’good’ life. A busy/messy/conflicted life does not necessarily = an imperfect/'bad' life. Don’t judge the experience or your emotions as either good or bad. They are energy.

FIRST STOP- A PLACE CALLED INTEGRITY Merriam Webster definition: ~firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values  ~an unimpaired condition  ~the quality or state of being complete or undivided   5

FIRST STOP- A PLACE CALLED INTEGRITY Whether you are aware of them or not, you have values that are deep seated. You experience energy loss when your day to day behaviours are not aligned with your deep seated values (even if you are not consciously aware of those values). 6

SECOND STOP- GETTING CONTROL OF YOUR BRAIN It is your thoughts that creates your emotional reality. Your natural state is wellness. Some of your most significant life events have “written” on the slate of who you are. Question those thoughts in order to decrease their power. Tame your inner saboteur by understanding the reptilian brain function and how to work with your saboteurs. 7

SECOND STOP- GETTING CONTROL OF YOUR BRAIN Review your Saboteur Assessment Results 8

THIRD STOP- LETTING GO AND WORKING WITH Understand the difference between your conscious and unconscious mind You being the leader/CEO of your unconscious mind is the most important job you will ever have with respect to letting go of beliefs that do not serve you The unconscious mind has as one of its primary functions to protect you from harm and does this by using emotions to alert you.

THIRD STOP- LETTING GO AND WORKING WITH   In order to alert you from harm, the unconscious mind gleans lessons from past experiences and may lump all like experiences with a similar label.

COMING UP AROUND THE BEND: FULL ACCESS TO YOUR SUPERPOWERS Name your top 3 weaknesses Weaknesses are strengths in the wrong environment. ~Marianne Cantwell

COMING UP AROUND THE BEND: FULL ACCESS TO YOUR SUPERPOWERS Your biggest strength doesn’t want to be caged. When your ‘thing’ doesn’t have a home, and barely has acknowledgement as anything more than an irritating weakness, it goes around like a whirlwind, untamed. Result: it might well be something you’ve been told to tone down more than once. And of course you were told to tone it down. It was shining in garish blinding lights not because it was wrong in itself, but because you never learned how to direct your flow to find its sweet spot. ~Marianne Cantwell

COMING UP AROUND THE BEND: FULL ACCESS TO YOUR SUPERPOWERS Name 2 qualities that I most love expressing? What are two ways I most love expressing those strengths? On a scale of 1 to 10, how actively am I living this? What would I have to do to make it a 10?

TAKE AWAY MESSAGE What is the main take away message that you are leaving here with? What is one practical thing that you will do differently?
