OBJECTIVES To be able to define what “fashion accessories” are. To identify the importance of wearing accessories to work and other occasions. To discuss the basic rules of wearing pearl accessories. To discuss the importance of a signature scent and how to fully utilize perfume/cologne as an invisible accessory.

A FASHION ACCESSORY CAN BE CATEGORIZED INTO TWO: THOSE THAT ARE CARRIED THOSE THAT ARE WORN

WHY IS A FASHION ACCESSORY an IMPORTANT STAPLE IN ONE’S OUTFIT? "Accessories is an exclamation point to a woman's outfit." - Michael Kors Sure, clothing is a staple. It keeps us warm, protect us from sun rays and accentuates our bodies. However, life will be so dull if there is only clothes to play with. In fact, we will look so uniformed and our personalities and style will be hidden inside us. 

1. It is Fun and Exciting! Admit it. You have over accessorised when you were younger, because the accessories looked so good and you got to flaunt it all in one night. Hehe! It is always fun and exciting to be your own stylist, pairing the right accessories to your outfit, for the right occasion. It can also elevate your mood! But be careful not to over accessorise as looking like a christmas tree can be a fashion disaster.   When we talk about accessories, it does not only limit to jewelries. Handbags, sunglasses, belts, shoes are also part of accessories. And we dare say, no woman today live without a single accessory in their wardrobe.

2. Creates A different look Same outfit, not a problem. Accessorise! You can own many basics and let accessories do the magic! With the right accessories, it can take you to 3 occasions. You'll be surprised. 

3. Amplifies your personality Accessorising is also another avenue to express yourself and your style. While your choice of clothes says everything about your style and preference, accessories help to take it to the next level. In fact, clothing and accessories work hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly.

4. Save money and time Shopping for clothing needs more time compared to shopping for accessories. There are just so many evaluation points before purchasing an outfit: Does it accentuate my body? Does the color matches my skin tone? Do they have the right size for me? and many more... Accessories are easier and have a relatively shorter decision making process. What ever looks great and if it's your style, you will definitely get it. What more, accessories are inexpensive. Like what we mentioned in point #2, accessories can give many different looks to an outfit. So indirectly, it helps you to save money and time!

5. Creates conversation Believe it or not, accessories can be a conversation starter. It is always nice to start a conversation by complimenting something nice about that person. Imagine if you are seated next to a lady with a pair of emerald earrings that you have been looking for months, you can't help yourself but to lean forward and ask where did she get her earrings from. Similarly, if you are wearing something that someone was dying to get it, you will definitely get a "Hi" from that person.

HOW TO WEAR PEARLS AT WORK AND AFTER WORK?

1. For a professional office look, opt for understated, simple pieces. The simple, yet elegant appearance of pearls make them beautiful feminine accessories at the office. They have a timeless aura around them and worn the correct way they will help you look sophisticated and fashionable. In many ways, pearls are better than diamonds when it comes to work wear, they are understated, and give you a sophisticated look without drawing too much attention to them. 1. It‘s advisable to wear just one pearl accessory at a time. So don‘t pair your pearl necklace with a pearl bracelet and earrings. You want your clients and colleagues to focus on your work, not your jewelry.

Basic pearl necklace styles

3. BIB A necklace with more than three strands of different lengths, which fits close to the base of the neck and extends over the upper part of the chest much as a child’s bib.

4. CHOKER (15-16 inches) 15-16 inches necklace that drops just above the collarbone.

5. PRINCESS (18-20 inches) 18-20 INCH long strand of pearls that falls mid-way between the collarbone and the bust. A princess necklace, works well with high or low necklines. It is the most versatile and easy to wear style.

6. MATINEE (20-24 inches) 20-24 inch necklace that reaches to the center of the bust.

7. OPERA (30-32 inches) Falls mid way between the bust and waist. May be wrapped around the neck twice to forma double-stranded choker.

8. ROPE (45 INCHES OR LONGER) May be knotted or wrapped several times.

WOODY 3. WOODY- A combination of wood and moss is the main theme of these woody fragrances. ORIENTAL 4. ORIENTAL- Oriental perfumes are a mix of earthy and musky fragrances. Ingredients like amber, musk, and animalistic base scents are often seen in Oriental perfumes. MUSK-derived form the glandular excretions of the musk deer of Tibet. But because of ethical standards that bans the hunt of these deers, synthetic aroma was created and is called MUSCONE. OCEANIC 7. OCEANIC- Oceanic fragrances are claimed to be a relatively newer type of perfumes containing synthetic aromas to resemble smells of mountain air, clean linen etc. CK Summer for men and women

SPICY 8. SPICY- These fragrances pack in those kitchen smells like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, pepper and more.  COCO by chanel for women POLO RED for men

TYPES OF PERFUMES BASED ON FRAGRANCE CONCENTRATION Underneath the name of the perfume on a bottle will normally be the fragrance concentration. A fragrance concentration refers to the strength that a fragrance has. Perfumes with a higher fragrance concentration contain more perfume oils and less alcohol. Fragrance concentrations are broken into categories including parfum, eau de parum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne, and eau fraiche.

PARFUM- Parfum, also known as extrait de parfum or pure perfume, has the highest fragrance concentration. Parfum will contain anywhere from 15% to 40% fragrance. EAU DE PARFUM- Eau de parfum generally has a fragrance concentration of between 15% and 20%. EAU DE TOILETTE- Eau de toilette (EDT) has a fragrance concentration of between 5% and 15%. EAU DE COLOGNE- Eau de cologne, or EDC, has a much lower concentration of fragrance than the above types of perfume. EDC generally has a 2% to 4% percent concentration of fragrance and a high concentration of alcohol. Of all scents, parfums last the longest; usually six to eight hours. Parfum generally also commands the highest price of all the fragrance types due to the high concentration of fragrance. People with sensitive skin may do better with parfums as they have far less alcohol than other fragrance types and therefore are not as likely to dry out the skin. 2. On average, eau de parfum will last for four to five hours. 3. It is cheaper than eau de parfum and is one of the most popular types of fragrance available. EDT fragrance will normally last for two to three hours. Eau de toilette is considered by some to be for daywear while eau de parfum is considered nightwear. The term eau de toilette came from the French term "faire sa toilette" which means getting ready. 4. It is cheaper than other types of fragrance however the scent generally only lasts for up to two hours. EDC generally comes in bigger bottles and more of the fragrance needs to be used.
