Freud’s biography He was born in Freiberg, Moravia spent most of his life in Vienna

Freud’s Theory When your conscious you tend to deny urges/ desires but when you are hypnotized every secret can be exposed (there are several layers to a person) He also discovered the libido ( Latin for strong desire )

Model of theory Sigmund Freud. Freud developed the psychoanalytic theory of personality development, which argued that personality is formed through conflicts among three fundamental structures of the human mind: the id, ego, and superego.

Personalities The id is the primitive and instinctive component of personality. It consists of all the inherited components of personality present at birth, including the sex (life) instinct The ego develops in order to mediate between the unrealistic id and the external real world. It is the decision making component of personality. Ideally the ego works by reason, whereas the id is chaotic and totally unreasonable. The superego incorporates the values and morals of society which are learned from one's parents and others. It develops around the age of 3 – 5 during the phallic stage of psychosexual development.

Type of research and opinions Freud studied the social and emotional parts of development We agree with this theory due to the fact that so many people with issues go see those who can hypnotize them , this way they can get some sort of release

Examples of this theory Nail biting may be caused by an anxiety inducing childhood event Any irrational behaviors can be blamed on childhood intsances of trauma or development Defense mechanism: Repression Denial Regression
