What is Game? Game have been around since the beginning of civilization. A game is a structured activity that is governed by a complete set of mutually accepted rules. Key components of games: goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. A game contains both artistic and functional elements. A game is not purely an art, and can not be seen as a science. A game is a craft.

What is Game? Game without goals is called “toy”. Game with challenge is called “puzzle”. Game that contains any contest between two or more players called “competition”.

Popular Games in the World Board Game: Senet is among the oldest known board games, found in Egypt. Backgammon, found in Iran. Chaturaji, in the Mahabharata, the Indian epic. Chinese Go. It is also known as igo (Japanese), weiqi (Chinese) or baduk (Korean), . 1930: Monopoly. Card Games: Heart, Solitaire, Poker. Other Games: Rock-paper-scissors. Mahjong. Quiz

What is had to be in a Game? A game must have a comprehensive set of rules. The rules of a game must be complete. They must cover all possibilities. The rules must be understood and accepted by all of the players.

Why people play a game? Risk Losing Experiencing Frustration Suffering Disappointment Money Personal Injury Reward Is what should be performed in a game.

What is Video/Computer Game? A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. A style of game existing as and controlled by software, usually run by a video game console or a computer, and played on a video terminal or television screen.

History of Video/Computer Game 60’s mainframe computer: “Core Wars” on Unix machine. 70’s text based and crude graphic adventures running on mainframe and mini computer. Wow!, Networked, “Pong”, by Nolan Bushnell, then Atari was born 1976-1978, TRS-80, Apple, Atari 800 hit the market. Wow! “Wolfenstein”. First 3D First Person Shooter Game. 80’s 16-bit computer: IBM PC, Mac, Atari ST, Amiga 500. Ada 3D: Wing Commander and Flight Simulator.

History of Video/Computer Game At this time, PC Game development is slow because expensive machine. Console Game grew faster. Early 90, IBM PC is the leader, Windows 3.0. You can not have fun with Macintosh. 1993, “Doom” was born and crazed hit. 90’s: Win95 era with DirectX technology. 1997: Nokia “Snake”, is the first ever mobile phone game offered. 2000’s: Massively Multiplayer Online Game. 2005: Nintendo DS, with built-in microphone and the first touch-screen game console. 2006: Nintendo Wii Console, which can detect movement input in three dimensions.
