Continental Drift In 1912, Alfred Wegener developed the theory of continental drift, which states that continents are in constant motion on Earth’s surface.

What is a tectonic plate?

Tectonic plates Earth’s upper mantle and crust are split in to large parts or pieces that form most of our land and continents.

Continents Tectonic plates make up most of our crust and they move 1inch/2cm apart from each other every year.

Pangea Scientists believe that all continents/tectonic plates used to connect with each other to make a super continents called Pangea.

Alfred Wegener The so called super continent (Pangea) was made by an scientist named Alfred Wegener. Alfred Wegener was a German scientists that changed how we see our planet, it took 50 years for scientists to accept his theory because they did not have enough evidence to support his theory but it was not until 1960s when they got enough evidence to support his theory.

Theory The data to back Alfred Wegener theory was that the east cost of South America and the west cost of the Africa looked like they where connected at one point of time. Watch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9Hr7V1S0pI
