Presentation transcript:

Thank you for attending Good evening and Thank you for attending ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Creating a collaborative relationship between school Main Focus Creating a collaborative relationship between school and home ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

We need your help too! How? ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Common Frustrations for Parents Millions of websites. Which do I use? Stress when discussing the importance of exams Frustrations when your child leaves things till the last minute I don’t understand these grades!!!! She/he always has an excuse Arguments about what time he/she should be coming in Seeing the panic your child goes through when exams are looming Tonight we will identify the best possible ways to eliminate as many frustrations as possible ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

New demands on your child Being self motivated and taking more responsibility for their own learning Developing their abilities to overcome frustrations Organising themselves, subject demands, deadlines & social lives Completing more work at home, independently Annual planning Planning & carrying out revision time Perfecting their exam techniques Tonight we will identify the best possible ways to eliminate as many frustrations as possible ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

What is your role as a parent? Partner with the school & your child – attend parents evenings, ask questions, find the best ways to help at home Be the BANKER – pay for the tools to use at home – Storage, paper, pens, favourite snacks during study time etc… Work with the teachers – We might make decisions that your child dislikes! Support us! Sounding board – keep a subtle eye on your child and inform us of your concerns Project Manager – agree the terms of study time v social time and stick to it. Make up for lost time Ensure your contact details are updated School Bag– Make sure they have one and frequently ask them to empty it. Important letters or documents will be left until its too late to address. ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Excuses you will hear My work is on the computer as school! We didn’t get any homework! I’ve got loads of time! I can do it tomorrow! Keep track of the excuses – Times/days/subjects Agree a solution – they may want to attend a party during revision time allocated Follow up without fail – Use your calendar at home with agreed changes to days/dates Access the remote desktop from home If in doubt, email me! ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Communication and Consistency My Priority List Attendance & punctuality Changes at home Planner checks/communication Deadline dates Intervention sessions Social Media Study environment ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Attendance My Priority List Attendance & punctuality – Get them there! Not only can this impact upon future opportunities but facts show that missing 10% of the school, or about 18 days negatively affects a student’s academic performance. 95% Attendance = Half a day of lessons missed every two weeks & two weeks of school missed each year Every lesson counts ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Home Life My Priority List Changes at home Please inform school of any changes that may impact the mind-set of your child. We are here to support through tough times such as bereavements but we need to be told. ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Use of the school planner My Priority List Planner checks/communication This is extremely crucial. The planner will maintain organisation and it is a means of communication for staff and parents/carers . ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Social Media My Priority List Social Media – TAKE IT AWAY These things are not needed when studying. They are a distraction! Remove social media and devices during allocated study times. Be consistent. Put time limits on the amount of time spent on the PlayStation etc. They keep the mind active and prevent you from switching off and getting quality rest. ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Relaxed Environment My Priority List Study environment We are trying to prevent the pupils feeling like the children in the pictures. If needed have a ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door. Prevent as many interruptions as possible from siblings, phone calls and social media etc. Have their favourite drinks & snacks. ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’

Please refer to the pack How can we help you? Please refer to the pack you have received We have provided the following: A year 10 calendar of events from form time to after school Pupil use of form time plan Intervention sessions timetable Home study timetable Subject information I will now hand over to the heads of faculties. If you have any questions I will gladly try to answer them at the end of the evening. Thank you  All information from this evening can be accessed by clicking on the year 10 Scene Setting Link in the Parents Section & the Year 10 information page on the school website. ‘Together we Believe, Achieve, Succeed’
