PARENT ENGAGEMENT & PARENT EDUCATION RESULTS PLAN : RESULT WHAT WILL IMPROVE? PARENT ENGAGEMENT & PARENT EDUCATION RESULTS PLAN : RESULT Parents will increase their belief, intention, skills and commitment to support their children’s academic development and successful path to college.

RESULTS NAZ NOTABLE FINDINGS

NOTABLE FINDINGS Engagement with NAZ Report Pages 6 & 22 718 families participated in the engagement strategy – as indicated by their enrollment with a NAZ Family Achievement Coach. 455 (63%) completed a goal or goal step 210 (29%) graduated from a Family Academy course 57* (6%) started a leadership activity during the period. (*updated data differs from report)

NOTABLE FINDINGS Engagement with NAZ Report Page 6 436 families (61%) were in NAZ for 1 year or more in FY 2017. Of these families, 47% responded “Involved or Highly Involved” with engaging the Family Achievement Coach. This compares to 21% in 2016. 36% ”Not Involved” in 2017. This compares to 61% in 2016. *This graph omits two middle categories of “Somewhat involved and Rarely involved”.

Engagement with schools NOTABLE FINDINGS Report Page 15 Engagement with schools and community Schools utilize a broad range of activities to engage families in their child’s schooling. ”Basic” engagement strategies are successful (e.g., communicating information to parents about the scholar.) They feel less successful at engaging parents in more robust ways (e.g., parent participation on PTOs and committees.)

NAZ Participation and Supports NOTABLE FINDINGS NAZ Participation and Supports Report Page 15 Schools perceive NAZ Coaches as a helpful, additional “touch point” with parents, but most did not feel like the presence of a Coach changed their current engagement approaches or dramatically impact family engagement. ?

Of these, most came from an Academic Success goal plan.

Engagement with schools NOTABLE FINDINGS Report Page 15 Engagement with schools and community Parents said what most motivated them to work on their Achievement Plans was support from their Family Achievement Coach and seeing their scholars’ grades and test scores improve.

Geographic distribution of families Report Page 26 Geographic distribution of families 315 (45%) lived within original NAZ boundaries. 342 (49%) lived outside of the original NAZ boundaries, but in North Minneapolis. 47 (7%) lived somewhere else.
