Body

Body Adequate Support for Ideas Definite Conclusion

Let’s take Point Ⅰas an example. Point I. Wal-Mart's entry into Iowa coincided with significant geographic shifts in the location of retail trade toward larger cities and regional trade centers within the state. Total sales of Wal-Mart towns went up and stabilized, and they became more of the regional trade centers. Wal-Mart had the potential to shore up or increase the retail trade activity of the rural trade centers in which it located.

But on the other hand, most of that gain was by Wal-Mart stores, and they did have negative impacts on a lot of other businesses in town -- mainly competing retailers in nearby communities. As you can see from the chart on this slide, the smallest towns in the state experienced substantial retail losses during the period. Retail sales in towns below 2,500 population declined 30 percent during the post Wal-Mart era, or about $1.5 billion in current dollars. In conclusion, retailers who compete most directly with Wal-Mart are negatively impacted by the mass merchandiser’s entry, while others can benefit.

Intermediate Conclusion

End This is the end of today’s presentation. Thanks for listening. Now let’s start our discussion.

1 I’ve covered the points I need to present today. 2 I’m happy to answer any questions at the end. 3 That sums up my description of the proposal.

Please don’t… That’s it. That’s all.

Let’s practice… 2 Listen to the following prompts and suggest a possible phrase for each of them. [1] Greet your audience. [2]Introduce yourself. [3]Give the title of your talk. [4] Give the purpose of your talk. [5] Outline your talk. [6] Say there’ll be time for discussion at the end of your talk. [7] Say you’ll send the audience a handout.

Presentation 2 Sales Strategies

Vocabulary 3 You can refer to this handout while I’m presenting. Please take one each and pass them around. Did everyone get a copy?

Presentation 3 Advertising Plan

Vocabulary 5,6 Wal-Mart incorporated competitive advantage mottoes into nearly every advertisement. “Everyday Low Price”

Vocabulary 9 Poor customer relations are the primary reason that customers quit doing business with a store.

Vocabulary 10 So we ought to incorporate the following facts into every ad: ① More convenient and complementary opening hours. ②Our “no hassle” return policy. ③ More competitive price of the price sensitive items .

Vocabulary 11 According to the above research information, we worked out the detailed report and the media mix: 65% for TV spots, 25% for print media and 10% for outdoor advertising.

Exercise P:156 II Listen and speak 1 Write down the number of the description on the line below the chart it describes.

Let’s practice… 2 Listen to the following prompts and suggest a possible phrase for each of them. [1]Say something about the length of your talk. [2]Say you’ll move to the next slide. [3]Sub-summarize a part of your talk. [4]Say you’ve finished a part of your talk. [5] Say you’ve finished your talk. [6] Thank your audience. [7]Say you’ll start your discussion.
