testing with users... WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO TEST IN YOUR ORG...

TESTING with users You’re back in learning mode. Watch & understand how users interact with your prototype.

not proving, selling, or evaluating feasiblity of your low-res proto, you’re using it as a tool to have a conversation and DEEPEN what you know and understand about needs and your solution to meet those needs

TESTING with users Your prototypes are not precious. Be ready to listen, not defend.

TESTING with users TEST YOUR SOLUTION What new information do you have about how your solution addresses the need? IN D.THINK WE WANT TO AMPLIFY YOUR EMPATHY...THIS IS A REFLECTION OF TEST YOUR POINT OF VIEW What new information do you have about needs?

TEST: HOW? create the context and the experience: remember: have the use do, not just listen set the scene surrounding your prototype use analogies and fake functionality, if it helps you

TEST: HOW? let the user experience the prototype: give a short explanation to set context act like a guide (not a lead)

TEST: HOW? observe the experience: capture what worked, and what didn’t work see how users use and mis-use your prototype have them talk through their experience: “tell me what you’re thinking…”

TEST: HOW? engage the user: ask specific, open-ended questions: “show me why this wouldn’t work for you” “can you tell me how this made you feel?” “why?”
