Bus Passes and Dismissal Forms Transportation changes should preferably be in writing and in the office before noon of that school day. Telephone changes will be accepted, but should be made before noon. When writing a bus note, please include the following information: Name of student Address and name of other student if applicable Duration of the pass Bus # Dismissal forms- all potential names

Attendance Policy TARDY= 1) arriving after 7:35 am Excused Absences Please note that after 6 excused absences determined by parent notes, a doctor note will be required in order to have an excused absence for the remainder of the year. All excuse notes must received in the office within five school days. The office will be unable to change absence statuses in the students’ records from unexcused to excused when the note is sent outside of the timeframe allowed. TARDY= 1) arriving after 7:35 am 2) signing out before 2:35 3) signing out and in on the same day An automated attendance system, or Mr. Arvin, may still call regarding your child’s absence even if you have sent an email excuse.

Binders PARENTS: only things in the “Leave at Home” side of the HOMEWORK FOLDER should be removed! Have your child sit down with you when organizing his/her binder. Please do not remove ANYTHING from your child’s colored subject area folders!

MAP Measure of Academic Progress (3x/year) Adaptive test Shows on what level your child is ready to learn First Testing Session: Aug. 16th, 17th, and 29th Scores discussed at conferences/ sent home with report cards

Daily Review Purpose: Continually review learned material (spiral review), from current and previous years 2. Encourage goal setting so that students are self-motivated learners/setting the ground work for life-long learners

Daily Review Grades: Unlike previous years, Daily Review is not a separate grade. It is incorporated into each subject area’s overall grade. Daily Review scores for each area are averaged in with the subject’s grades. Weekly, students keep track of their progress through graphing scores.

How can you help your child be successful? Study daily review questions each evening as they come home. Correct answers are discussed and provided in class. Corrections are made in red pen.

4th Grade Homework Policy If missing an assignment, a student will discuss the issue with the assigning teacher during recess time. If this is an ongoing problem, the student may lose part of his/her social recess time.

REMIND Text and Email Get texts or emails about upcoming 4th grade happenings. To join: Visit www.remind.com/join/wells4 OR Text @wells4 to 81010 and follow the instructions.

Accelerated Reader Homework: Read 20 minutes every week night, fill in page numbers read, and get AR Log signed. When a quiz is taken and passed students earn points toward his/her AR goal. 70% is passing according to the AR program; however, we encourage a test average of 85%.

Accelerated Reader Students should be at 50% of their goal by the middle of the quarter (midterm) and 100% to their goal by the end of the quarter 20% of the reading grade comes from: Percent of AR goal achieved (10%) Percent of correct answers on the quizzes (10%) AR is managed by your child’s homeroom teacher, but the scores are part of his/her reading grade.

Renaissance Home Connect An easy way for parents and students to view individual AR progress from home is AR Home Connect. Go to Western’s web page and find the AR Home Connect link. Use your child’s username and password to sign up for email notifications about your child’s AR activity. 2 easy ways to find out if a book is AR: www.arbookfind.com Book scanner app

Language Learning Checks Weekly (homework due Tuesday and Thursday, quiz Friday) Similar to spelling packets, but also different Front sheet will tell expectations for the week (to know how to study!!)

Quality Work Label papers correctly Show effort and take pride Follow directions

Math -Homework - 55 minute rotations -Dreambox

Science Fair Science Fair will occur in late January Optional activity (not for a grade) Students in grade 2-5 are eligible to participate. All projects should follow the scientific method and use explanatory labels on their exhibits to demonstrate this as well as graphs, charts, and tables. All exhibits must be constructed by the students. Parents, teachers, or any technically trained professional may give advice and guidance only.
