Award for Leadership and Influence Andy Brown Nominated by Alan Wallis Seconded by Carol Hawman Andy has provided high quality support and challenge to schools & delivered support to staff and schools to a high standard which has contributed to the development of physical education. He has improved the infrastructure within the county to ensure effective networks are in place to support the development of high quality physical education and worked effectively with other partners across LAs within the region. Andy played a key strategic role working with 6 school sport partnerships to coordinate an effective CPD programme which has provided a wide range of opportunities for numbers of staff in our schools. He has taken on a lead role in developing and promoting Physical Activity and supported schools to become more inclusive and enabled a large number of young people to take part in higher quality Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity by implementing an effective Gifted and Talented Programme.

Award for Leadership and Influence Susan Cooke Nominated by Nicky Scott Seconded by Jill Elbourn Susan is a highly respected adviser, consultant and deliverer who has maintained her vision for Physical Education through major changes. She has ensured that her commitment to provide high quality learning experiences for young people has been consistently maintained throughout her career. Susan recognizes the need for curriculum innovation as the key to staff development. She has worked to this end advising colleagues about curriculum developments at Primary phase and developing Secondary subject Leader action research projects to reward and share practice. Susan has been a great advocate for the Physical Education Profession and has been involved a both a local and national level with The Association for Physical Education and the Youth Sport Trust. Susan is a regular contributor to afPE NW member meetings as well a long serving Member the Health and Safety Advisory Panel, contributing to sections within the Safe Practice document.

Award for Leadership and Influence Gill Parry Nominated by Hannah Vecchione Seconded by Laura Weston As Gill retires from Manchester she has ensured sustainability of her work by leaving a clear structure which will help to ensure the longevity and high profile of high quality Physical Education. She has been involved in the process of encouraging and supporting teachers to reach AST. She has nurtured this role so that AST teachers continue to support HQ PE via one to one support for schools as well as delivering courses. She has driven the PE PD Partnership Board to achieve approved provider status for 3 years due to the monitoring of the impact of CPD in Manchester. One primary school, Our Lady’s Primary School has been involved with the production of a DVD demonstrating high quality PE. This video is being rolled out nationally. St John’s RCPS have been supported by Gill to achieve PE specialism status (1 of only 5 nationally).

Award for Leadership and Influence Sharron Robinson Nominated by Gina Wallis Seconded by Shirley Pryce & Suzanne Meehan Sharon has worked in education for over 40 years & is an experienced, nationally renowned consultant in physical education. She has recently retired from her role but continues to support other professionals on a voluntary basis. She has worked across all stages of the education spectrum, from reception to ITT and is well respected for her professional approach to teaching and learning. She has worked as a teacher, inspector, lecturer and consultant. Sharon has written numerous specialist publications in dealing with all aspects of curriculum planning, strategic planning, subject management and assessment, from Early Years to KS4. Her work has been published independently, by education authorities and by BAALPE/afPE. Sharon has worked extensively for Baalpe and afPE, delivering high quality professional development to LAs and schools. She delivered numerous workshops for the associations at national conferences.

Honoured Member Award Lorraine Cale Nominated by Jo Harris Seconded by Sue Connor Lorraine has led and supported the development of high quality innovative PE teachers over many years and is now using her expertise in quality assurance and enhancement to develop comprehensive and effective policies and practices across the entire department in her workplace. Lorraine has published in numerous journals on the promotion of physical activity, fitness testing & health- related physical education. These have informed the working practices of academics, teacher educators and practitioners and helped to bridge the gaps between policy, practice & research. She was a committed & effective afPE Board member from 2006 to 2010 and is actively involved in the afPE East Midlands region. Lorraine has ably chaired the afPE Research Committee for the past 3 years and was a member of the editorial board of ‘Physical Education Matters’ &is now responsible for & is a member of the editorial board for the Physical Education & Sport Pedagogy.

Honoured Member Award Maureen Hooper Nominated by Gina Wallis Seconded by Keith Spencer Mo has developed both meaningful & sustainable links between health, physical activity, sport and well being. She has made her relationship with the local PCT integral to the development and support for physical education across all schools within the Borough. She has ensured that the School Sport Partnerships recognise their impact on the wider local, regional and national agendas, in addition to their specific SSP targets. Mo has used her strong inter-agency links to establish a Sustainably structure for future development which has continued beyond her retirement. Subject leaders continue to meet, lead, develop and support each other to improve practice. Schools are recognising the whole school impact of PESS through the secondary subject leader forum & the developments initially undertaken by a few schools under Mo’s guidance & support are becoming normal practice. Some subject leaders have been identified as developing exceptional practice & have led professional learning for subject leaders within other local authorities.

Honoured Member Award Sue Trotman Nominated by Gina Wallis Seconded by Keith Spencer Sue Trotman has worked in education for over 35 years and is currently Adviser for Effective Practice, Physical Education and Dance within Sandwell L A. She has spent most of her career in delivering Dance in service training regionally, nationally and internationally, often working with children to model good practice. Sue is enthusiastic and passionate about ensuring all pupils experience high quality dance education and has consistently delivered high quality teaching of dance across schools locally, regionally and nationally over many years. She has Supported QCA in providing national guidance . She is involved in major projects and initiatives including Dancing for the Games [2012]. Sue is highly regarded by the Local Education Authority, the National Dance Teachers Association, afPE , DfE; QDCA and YST for her contribution to the development of dance within schools and the wider community. Sue has contributed to many local & national initiatives that have ensured a change in practice to improve teaching and learning.
