Presentation transcript:

What might have happened in this picture? How would you feel if you were being helped by another person?

Max, five, has Brittle Bone Disease - a condition which affects the body’s production of collagen. Max is a very determined little boy who wants to be like any other child but his condition means that just playing with friends can result in a fracture. So far Max has broken fourteen bones, including three ribs and both legs. He also gets very tired and wakes up in the night with bone pain. Video

Video Max is helped by the Brittle Bone Society, a project funded by BBC Children in Need. At clinics, Max receives medical support as well as meeting other children with the same condition. Max’s mum and dad say that these visits really help him to understand and live with his condition. Thanks to your donations, the Brittle Bone Society can continue to support Max as he grows

Happy, Proud, Pleased, Caring, Supporting • Who helped Max in the story and what did they do? • How did Max feel about being helped? • How did Max’s mum feel about helping Max? • These words might help you: Happy, Proud, Pleased, Caring, Supporting

Happy, Proud, Pleased, Caring 1. Think of a time when you’ve helped someone. For example, have you ever… Helped your parents tidy up? Helped a friend with a task? Helped someone who has hurt themselves? Helped make someone feel better when they are sad? 2. How did it make you feel to help someone? Happy, Proud, Pleased, Caring

Helping people makes us feel… In pairs, look through the pictures on the Helping Hands activity sheet. 1. Decide what you could do to help each character. You could draw or write your ideas on the activity sheet, or act them out. 2. Share your ideas with the class. Complete this sentence: Helping people makes us feel…

Watch the video ‘Big Spotacular Introduction’ http://bit.ly/2eLGB4e What did the children in the video do to fundraise and how did it make them feel?

We are going to be helping thousands of children just like Max, by taking part in the BBC Children in Need Big Spotacular? What could you do to help? Your teacher could have a look at the BBC Children in Need website to give you some ideas about what kind of things you could do: www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/schools

1. Carefully draw around your hand on a piece of paper. 2. On the inside of the hand, write down, draw or paste a picture to show someone being ‘happy to help’. Challenge: Write or draw what you’re going to do to fundraise, and how this will make you feel.
