CALENDAR FOR GREECE Every year on March 25 we honour and celebrate the uprising of the enslaved Greeks against the Turkish oppressor for freedom and self-determination. In fact it is the most important date in the history of Modern Greece, the starting point of national regeneration.

CALENDAR FOR GREECE Labour Day In Greece. On the first day of May is celebrated the day of the workers. It is actually the standard celebration of the uprising of the Chicago workers. In May 1886 labour unions in Chicago rose up demanding working hours to eight hours and better working conditions. also celebrated as a day of flowers and spring. The day established as a holiday and all services and businesses remain closed.

Anniversary of NO-October 28 The Anniversary of NO, the refusal of Greece to the Italian claims on ultimatum notified on October 28, 1940, the Greek Prime Minister, consequence of which was the entrance of the country in World War II and the beginning of the Greek-Italian war of 1940. The date established to be celebrated in Greece every year as an official national holiday.

Athens Polytechnic uprising – November 17th The Polytechnic uprising in 1973 was a massive demonstration of popular opposition to the regime of the Colonels. The uprising began on November 14, 1973, with occupation of the Technical University of Athens by students and students escalated almost anti-junta uprising and ended with bloodshed on the morning of November 17, after a series of events that began with the entrance of main battle tank in the Polytechnic and the reinstatement of the relevant military law forbidding gatherings and traffic in Athens and Thessaloniki.

My own culture and civilization STUDENT DESPOINA APOSTOLAKI A country with historical course from the 7th millennium BC, Greece has a fascinating and interesting past. Historical monuments in Greece and the Greek islands date from all time periods, from the Mycenaean and the Classical times till the Medieval and Modern Era. You will find bellow a list with the most important historical monuments in Greece. The culture of Greece has evolved over thousands of years, beginning in Mycenaean Greece, continuing most notably into Classical Greece, through the influence of the Roman Empire and its successor the Byzantine Empire.

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the  Parthenon .

The Parthenon is an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian Democracy. It is regarded as one of the world's greatest cultural monuments

KNOSSOS HERAKLEION CRETE In a short distance of 5 km from Herakleion Town, Knossos is the most important sight in Crete island. Discovered in the early 20th century by the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans, the site was found almost intact and covered by ashes. This led scientists believe that the palace was destroyed by a tsunami wave caused by the volcanic eruption of Santorin in about 1,500 BC.

KARYATID IN AKROPOLIS A caryatid  is a sculpted female figure serving as an architectural support taking the place of a column or a pillar supporting an entablature on her head. The Greek term karyatides literally means "maidens of Karyai", an ancient town of Peloponnese. Karyai had a famous temple dedicated to the goddess Artemisin her aspect of Artemis Karyatis.

ANCIENT OLYMPIA Olympia is the place where the first ancient Olympic Games took place in 776 BC. These games were organized every four years to honor god Zeus and according to the myth it was the famous hero Hercules who started these games. Gradually these sports competitions became very important for all the Greek cities and it was considered a great honor for a city-state if their athlete won in the Olympic Games. The temples of Zeus and Hera and the Ancient Stadium are today the most important sights in Ancient Olympia, while excavations are still.

MYCENAE Located on the north eastern side of Peloponnese, the town of Mycenae gave its name to an entire civilization, the Mycenaean civilization. The giagantic city walls that are said to have been built by Cyclops, the Lion Gate and the Treasury of Atreus are the most important monuments and sights in Mycenae. Right next to the ancient site, there is an interesting Archaeological Museum.

My view about Europe Europe and especially Greece, is experiencing one of the most significant influxes of migrants and refugees in its history. Pushed by civil war and terror and pulled by the promise of a better life, huge numbers of people have fled the Middle East and Africa, risking their lives along the way. International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde said that the European Union and IMF common goal is to help Greece out of the crisis and return to growth but they have not do anything yet. So, the arrival of refugees in Greece suffering from a general crisis. The initial frustration that felt the locals from refugees ,because they are live in camps close to their affecting them and scarring them but the most serious problem is that we can not live due to the fact that we have not money. Stuck in Greece remaining 50,000 refugees and immigrants as well as the closing of the Balkan Corridor and delay implementation of the EU-Turkey Agreement forcing them to remain in standby mode about their future. According to the latest official figures, the refugees in Idomeni amounted to 13000 while still unsettled situation in the port of Piraeus, where still more than 5000 refugees and immigrants.

This situation can not continue and the EU must intervene because there is an economic problem we can not compete in . I think that barring people from my country , Greece , maybe some people from other countries bothered from my opinion but all I said are real. Despoina Apostolaki STUDENT

Recommended Places to Visit in My Country student Dainava Sofia Generally speaking , there are many places that should be visited in my country by tourists. Below, will be mentioned a few of them. AKROPOLIS The Akropolis is located in the capital city of my beloved country, Athens. Akropolis constists of one of the least historical monuments that have been maintained through the years. Furthermore , Akropolis includes Parthenon (temple) and Erechtheio. This place is recommended because those buildings are unique of importance. Akropolis accepts thousands of people each year. Since Akropolis is almost near the center of Athens , a spectacular choice of a cafeteria with view to Parthenon , would offer unforgettable moments, especially in the night.

WHITE TOWER White Tower is a tower with height 33,9 m in Thessaloniki .It is a monument admired both of Greek people and people from all around the world. Everyone would pay for entrance to the White Tower. Since, the Tower is located next to the sea , everyone would be able to feel the smell of the sea and watch the view of the whole city from the top of a terrific building simultaneously. Somebody could combine his visit to the White Tower with a walk to its coastal road .

OLD TOWN OF RHODES   If you want something more traditional then you have to visit the Old Town, which is located to the known island Rhodes. Old town is capable of offering to the tourist different kinds of entertainment and an historical monument as well. If someone intends to have the time of his life , then has to start his day by visiting the Castle of the Knights in the Old Town, since it is open only the mornings and noons. Then he could spent his afternoon drinking a coffee and his night eating the speacialities of the island.Eventually , if he wishes, he also could comlete his night by visiting the most known clubs and bars of the Old Town.

KNOSSOS Knossos consists of an archeological area in the large island Crete, which used to be an town of the Minoan civilization. The palace of Knossos and its mulal are identified as excellent works of architecture and painting. In general , Knossos worths visiting from people of all nationalities. Someone has the capability to end his tour of Knossos by purchasing a souvenir or drinking a coffee there.
