Breakdown 1. First sentence=acknowledement=“Despite all these argument, some people believe _________________” 2. Second sentence=Refutation (wrong) or concession (it’s true, but…) 3. Third part=prove it wrong and prove your point at the same time OR diminish the importance of the valid counter-argument and then go into your own point

Example Despite these two arguments for cats, dog-lovers may still say that dogs are better because cats are too difficult to care for. They may say that litter boxes and cat hair cause problems (acknowledgement). Though litter boxes and cat hair can cause problems for some, dogs cause their own problems in maintenance and care (concession + diminish). Cats do not have to be walked. They get plenty of exercise in the house as they play, and they do their business in the litter box. Cleaning a litter box is a quick, painless procedure. Cats also take care of their own grooming. Bathing a cat is almost never necessary because under ordinary circumstances cats clean themselves. Cats are more particular about personal cleanliness than people are. In addition, cats can be left home alone for a few hours without fear. Unlike some pets, most cats will not destroy the furnishings when left alone. They are content to go about their usual activities until their owners return.
